In today’s smartphone scene where most of the handsets currently available in the market today are full touchscreen devices, it is rather becoming more difficult to look for a very capable smartphone with all the bells and whistles you want while at the same time packs a physical QWERTY keyboard to make your messaging chores a whole lot easier. Well, if you happen to have Verizon for your wireless provider of choice, you have the option of bagging the Motorola Droid 4 but that handset seems a little underpowered compared to the big guns of today. But if you happen to be a Sprint subscriber, then you can get your hands on the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE, a slide-out QWERTY packing handset that can take the game to the bad boys, which Sprint recently released.
The Motorola Photon Q is on sale now starting at $149.99.
As early as a couple of months ago, we already heard rumors about the existence of the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE. For a change, the rumors back then approximate the truth and speculations were spot on at that time down to the “Q” in the handset’s moniker which meant that it will come with a QWERTY keyboard. Sprint head honcho Dan Hesse also unofficially made the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE official when he mentioned the handset at the carrier’s Q2 earnings call. And now that the handset is already available in Sprint shelves, we now have a very capable, QWERTY-packing device that we can make use of in taking advantage of the nascent LTE network of the wireless provider.
Although the LTE network of Sprint is just in its infancy compared to that of Verizon and AT&T, it still promises blazing fast mobile internet speeds to any user rocking an LTE-capable Sprint handset such as the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE. Using the handset to check just how reliable the LTE network of Sprint is, we set out to do some real-world tests on the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE while it is playing in the LTe playgrounds of the carrier.
As such, the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE was able to come up with download speeds ranging from a minimum of 0.094 Mbps to a maximum of 32.6 Mbps for a 5.98 Mbps average DL speed. Uploads on the other hand range from 0.152 Mbps to as fast as 14.3 Mbps on a 4.82 Mbps average UL speed. We also took a look at latency and the handset exhibited latencies ranging from 31 ms to as high as 578 ms for an average of 59.8 ms.
Taking a look at the numbers, peak performance of the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE on Sprint’s LTE network is pretty good but the average speeds that the handset managed to come up with are only about a half of what you get with AT&T’s LTE network. However, you have to take into consideration the fact that Sprint’s LTE network is a just little over a month old and things are expected to improve over time.
Buy the Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE now starting at $149.99.
