The number of devices released each year before the holiday season is typically quite high and this time is no different. In fact, the preholiday season has not yet started but it looks like manufacturers are in a rush to get out their devices. The number of Android phones and other gadgets that run the platform that have been unveiled this last week is quite high and was probably done to beat the new iPhone in the race to the market. Samsung, Sony and LG have all unveiled some new devices and it will be interesting to see how they will fare in the market.
First is the Samsung Galaxy Note II, the huge successor to the already imposing Galaxy Note. Though it has been only six months since the Note has been in the market, Samsung found reason enough to launch a new device and this is a welcome respite from all the news about the trial between it and Apple. The Note II has a 5.5” 720p Super AMOLED display and is powered by a 1.6GHz quad core processor. It has a whopping 2GB of RAM and features Android 4.1 or Jellybean. This device is surely superior to its predecessor and can march into the market on the Note’s success.
Another device from Samsung is the Galaxy Camera. This is not a phone but just a camera of amazing quality that features Jellybean and hence can run all the Android apps on it. It has a 1.4GHz quad core processor and come with a 21x optical zoom lens that can capture images as sharp as 16 megapixels. One version of it is also going to be 3G enabled.
Sony too is trying to make a statement in the industry with its latest launches, the Xperia T, V and J. The Xperia T is going to be the company’s flagship device and is featuring a 1.5GHz dual core processor and comes with a 4.6” 720p HD display and a 13 megapixel camera. Sony is not a major factor in the Android market but these phones might just make a difference owing to the fact that Samsung and the like will have to take a backseat for a while at least after the judgment.
The tablet market too saw some introductions such as the Sony Xperia Tablet S and features a Tegra 3 processor and a keyboard cover similar to the Microsoft Surface.
