A new mobile gaming network is set to take on other social gaming networks with a new system that allows users to play games together, no matter what platform the game is developed on. The PlayPhone app is a free to play app and runs on iOS, Android, Flash, Windows Phone 7 and HTML5. Users can socialize with each other and play the same multiplayer game whether on a smartphone or tablet. Head of PlayPhone, Ron Czemy, said “We think that is something that nobody else will be able to do; you’re not limited to playing with friends who have the same operating system as you.”
The company is based in San Jose, California and is set to take on other companies like Gree/OpenFeint and DeNA/Ngmoco. The mobile social gaming network could be a huge success with more gamers flocking to the smartphone and tablet to play their favorite games. PlayPhone made this announcement after the company was able to gain over 3 million worldwide users for the network. Czemy says that there are currently 15 games in the network created by 10 developers, but by early next year the company is hoping to be adding at least one game per day.
The company believes they got a good jump on any competition in the industry even though the system can be quite complicated. The PlayPhone social gaming network is already live and running worldwide on more than 35 million feature phones. The new app has just been recently launched for other major formats and will finally work on smartphones and tablets. When a user logs in to play a game like PlayPhone Poker, the social network part of it is connected automatically. A small icon appears to let you know that you’re connected to the social network and with one quick tap you get sent to the first home screen. From that screen you can see if there are any friends online that will be able to play games with you.
A quick demo of the product showed that users with Android powered smartphones could be sitting at the same poker tablet online, share texts and other messages. If you want you can connect to the app with Facebook and get access to all the games right away. The company has about 90 employees and is looking to raise money in order to take on other companies doing the same thing.
