The Nexus 5 was in the news most recently when Google leaked a video of the new Android KitKat software that apparently included a new smartphone with the Nexus branding, however it was not identified in the video. While consumers have keen eyes and are very good at picking up on the slightest thing, the rumors about the new Nexus 5 really started to pick up after that point. According to a filing in the FCC this week, it looks like the Nexus 5 could be developed by LG with the model number reading D820.
The original leak was from a well known Twitter account that is pretty good at bringing more information to consumers about devices that have not been released. The Twitter account claimed that the LG model D820 was actually going to be the international version of the LG G2, but now it seems that information could be incorrect. This week, the Twitter account was brought back to life with Nexus 5 rumors and stating that the Twitter user was “happy” that he was incorrect about the D820 being the LG G2. The user does not go into detail about whether the device is the new Nexus 5, but assumptions have been made and there would be only one reason that he was happy about the filing proving him incorrect.
Until LG comes forward and says they are developing the new Nexus 5, it could still come from Google. Some rumors logically suggested that Motorola would be making the new Nexus branded smartphone and that it would be different from the Moto X and be ready to ship within the fourth quarter of this year. One rumor suggests that consumers could see an LG Nexus 5 and a Nexus 5 from Motorola before the end of October.
Other Nexus 5 rumors from the last couple of months include hardware similar to the LG G2, which comes with a 1080p HD display, 13MP camera sensor and more. The overall design will not be similar to the LG G2 smartphone, however. Google has slowly been trying to release higher end smartphones, without contracts and packed with specs that will get the attention of those that do not want to pay an arm and a leg for an unlocked smartphone. If the Nexus 5 comes with some of the specs that have been rumored, it could gain plenty of attention.
