It has been reported that Google has decided to delay the release of the upcoming Nexus Prime as a mark of respect on the passing away of the Apple visionary, Steve Jobs, highlighting how highly the even the rivals of Apple held the co-founder of the company. Both Samsung and Google were all set to unveil the first ever smartphone to run the next version of Android platform, Ice Cream Sandwich, at a trade show of the wireless industry in San Diego.
However, those plans were put on hold after the news of Jobs’ death came in. Both released a joint statement saying that they do not believe that this time is right for the announcement of a new product as the world is paying its last respects to the memory of Steve Jobs.
Jobs passed away on the 5th of October, succumbing to his long fight with pancreatic cancer, a day after the release of the iPhone 4S from Apple, a phone which will compete with the Nexus Prime for the top spot in the smartphone market. The tributes to Jobs started pouring in right after the news of his death spread as fans around the world held iPhone lit vigils and posted their messages of commemoration on various social networks.
One of Apple’s long-time rivals, Microsoft, lowered the flags at its compound to half-mast after Bill Gates publicly remembered the achievements of Jobs. The decision to postpone the Nexus Prime release by Google, too, shows that the company was deeply influenced by Jobs, despite being one of Apple’s fiercest rivals.
However, unlike Google and Samsung, Apple is still marketing its new iPhone after Jobs’ death, which is likely a way the company wants to continue his legacy and keep up its fight with its rivals in a market which is getting increasingly more competitive. The newly revealed iPhone 4S hasn’t received a tremendous amount of praise, as most fans and analysts expected a bigger hardware overhaul. However, analysts think that the phone might sell better now as people may buy the phone in honor of Steve Jobs. The 4S includes the new iOS 5 with a new voice recognition feature called Siri, an 8 MP camera and also a much faster processor. It is available on pre-order from today and will be released publicly on the 14th of October.
