Though Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference had a number of announcements lined up, introducing the Maps app for iPhone, an updated version of Siri and a new line of Mac laptops with software updates, what was missing was the announcement of the next generation of the iPhone. This certainly is good news for Samsung as this means that they can continue to dominate the global smartphone market.
Even as Apple continues to be able to build hype over the products that they are expected to release, Android handsets have crowded the market, with new phones being introduced regularly. However, Samsung has managed to throw in new phones into the market and generate high levels of anticipation at the same time, levels that can match up to the iPhone like in the case of Galaxy S III. While several iconic Android phones have come and gone, like the HTC Evo, the Motorola Droid and the T-Mobile G1, none of them managed to spark off the same levels of interest among consumers as the iPhone.
On account of being a unified brand and having a singular form factor spreading across five carriers, the Galaxy S III has managed to gain widespread interest across the United States. And much to their advantage, Apple may not introduce the next generation of the iPhone until fall. In this case, Samsung has the opportunity to win over users who are waiting for an upgrade or are off their contracts. In addition, thanks to the London 2012 Olympic Games, of which Samsung is a major sponsor, they have a very good chance at promoting their new products.
The Galaxy S III will soon be available with carriers and with many customers holding off for the iPhone 5 launch which is now delayed, the timing of the S III launch has worked perfectly in favor of Samsung. Even among phones running on Android, Samsung has been effortlessly able to beat its competitors. Motorola last came up with the Droid Razr Maxx. HTC hasn’t been able to pull off a resounding success with the One X, in spite of it having the potential to compete with Samsung. Further, it is available only with AT&T. Samsung, on the other hand, is brilliantly marketing its products.
Google’s developer conference is much awaited to know what Google has to offer in response to Apple’s announcements. Google is expected to introduce Android Jelly Bean and their Nexus tablet which will help push Android ahead in the tablet market, apart from the push it has already received from the Galaxy S III.
