Launched in November of last year in your choice of yellow, red, black, white and cyan colors, the Nokia Lumia 920 currently retails for around one penny on contract when purchased from select online retailers. And while it may have taken longer than its users would have liked, the US versions of the handset are in the process of receiving the Nokia Amber update. All the major carriers in the United States which offer the Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phone should receive an update notification on their handset through the Nokia Conversations blog.
The Nokia Lumia 920 4G is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $0.01 – $349.00.
The upgrade should hit all US Nokia Lumia 920 smartphones by the end of September, with the Amber update first announced during the launch of the Lumia 925. This is a significant change to the Windows Phone user interface, and includes an updated Storage Check utility, updates for exclusive Nokia applications, the option for users to flip their devices to a silent mode, as well as the ability to double tap your Lumia screen to wake the handset. Also included is an option to allow your Lumia 920 to display the current time, and also some notifications, even if the phone is locked.
The handset delivers an 8.7 megapixel Carl Zeiss enriched camera on the back of the phone, and this Amber update delivers the Nokia Pro Camera application. Now Nokia Lumia 920 users will be able to control their camera’s exposure time, ISO setting and white balance, and some new applications will be added. The Nokia Video Trimmer is now onboard the handset, which is an application that lets Lumia users record video and edit it directly on the 920. Nokia Video Upload is delivered through this update, which allows handset owners to deliver video uploads to YouTube for the first time.
These Nokia updates will be exclusive to the Lumia 920 smartphones running Windows Phone 8 or higher, meaning that you get all of the features of the Windows Phone GDR2 update as well. This includes Xbox Music upgrades, support for onboard FM radio, and other advancements. Nokia Lumia 920 users have already been excitedly tweeting about the upgrade, as it evidently has already begun to appear on devices in the United States.
With Dolby sound enhancement across all audio functions, the Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8 smartphone offers blur-free video and snapshots through optical image stabilization and PureView technology. The handset offers a large 4.5 inch display with HD+ resolution running 1,280 by 768 pixels. The 920 supports wireless charging, and delivers up to 17.0 hours of talk time from a full battery charge. A dual core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 CPU powers the handset, which also delivers 1.0 GB of RAM memory and 32 GB of built-in data storage space.
