When talking about the Windows Phone ecosystem especially the current high-end devices available in the platform, there are only two choices as of the moment – the Nokia Lumia 920 and the HTC Windows Phone 8X. The HTC flagship device slightly got the better of the Nokia top-tier device when the Portico update was rolled out to the Windows Phone 8X a couple of days back but Nokia is quickly catching up with the recent rollout of the same update to its handset. With both handsets getting the updates, both of them again have reached a stalemate forcing the majority of Windows Phone fanboys to make a rather hard decision in selecting the next high-end Windows Phone 8-powered handset to make their next mobile weapon of choice.

But if availability of handset is put into the equation, HTC might come off with a slight edge over the Finnish manufacturer. Although there are reports that sales figures of the Nokia Lumia 920 is very impressive in some markets, there is an intriguing piece of news we recently come across that intimates that demand for the handset is very tight and is experienced not only in US shores. In fact, a latest supply chain report that we managed to get our hands on allege that the Finnish smartphone manufacturer is only capable of manufacturing 20,000 Nokia Lumia 920 handsets a day. Doing the math, this would only come up to 600,000 devices in a month.

All things considered, these figures are a bit strange. After all, there are speculations that sales of the Nokia Lumia 920 have already breached the 4 million range during the Holiday quarter. Not only that, word on the street is that it was only last week that the manufacturer has finally started catching up with the demand for the handset in the European continent.

If this is the case, it is hard to explain as to why Nokia would only come up with 600,000 Nokia Lumia 920 4G handsets in a month. After all, the handset is the current flagship device of the Finnish manufacturer for the Windows Phone ecosystem and it should exert all effort in getting it pushed into the market. Could the manufacturer have issues with chip quality and unstable deliveries from QualComm? No confirmation about this and you are all advised to take this with a grain of salt.

As for the Nokia Lumia 920, the handset is already running Windows Phone 8, the latest iteration of the Microsoft mobile operating system. The circuitry of the handset is built around its QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset and this SoC comes with a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and a full gigabyte of RAM. Storage space onboard the handset is pegged at a very generous 32GB while its display measures 4.5 inches diagonally and is of the IPS TFT capacitive multitouch variety with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels. Its dual-shooter configuration on the other hand boasts of a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.3MP snapper.

  1. The 600K a month production is only for ONE factory in China….and is extremely misleading of Nokia’s overall production. Nokia has factories all over the world, the largest being in Finland.

  2. Your report is missing information. That statistic of 600,000 a month capacity was for their largest factory in Beijing, it did not represent Nokia’s total output for one month. They have many other factories.
