Some alcohol fueled sketching on a napkin way back in 2007 laid the groundwork for the impressive camera on board the Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone which debuted this year. And this year Laptop magazine has awarded the Nokia Lumia 1020 4G Windows phone one of its annual Game Changer awards for mobile device innovation. Evidently, when Nokia engineers Eero Salmelin and Juha Alakarhu were scribbling away camera ideas after drinking beers in a Tokyo bar more than six years ago, they must have stumbled across something really wonderful.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $74.99$74.99 – $599.99.
The two Nokia engineers said that it is very difficult “to make an optical zoom with high performance in a mobile phone size.” But after years of tinkering with their original ideas, the two created the 41 megapixel sensor on the Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone camera which has won awards and industry admiration since it debuted. The Lumia 1020 is available in a wide variety of colors such as yellow, white, black and blue, and offers a large, high-resolution display, generous RAM allotment and arguably the best and most powerful camera ever found on a mobile handset.
The phone also offers special HAAC mics capable of high-fidelity stereo recording, and a large 4.5 inch AMOLED True HD+ screen with a pixel density of 334 pixels per inch. Resolution runs 768 by 1,280 pixels, with more than 16 million colors present. A polarizing filter helps deliver perfect viewability in even bright lights and outdoors, and a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 layer offers scratch resistance. Talk time is exceptional, with a full 19.10 hours of talk time provided from a single battery charge.
The Nokia Lumia 1020 supports wireless charging, and draws its power from a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 system chip. A dual core 1.5 GHz Krait CPU is at the base of the hardware package, which includes an Adreno 225 graphics processor, 2.0 GB of RAM memory and 32 GB of built-in data storage. An additional 7 GB of free SkyDrive storage is also present, as well as Dolby Digital Plus and Dolby headphone enhancement.
Nokia has included an FM Stereo radio with RDS display, and the 41 megapixel rear camera includes an extensive list of special effects and customization features. Carl Zeiss optics are on board, as are both Xenon & LED flashes. 4X lossless digital zoom, a video light, a self timer, a back illuminated sensor (BSI), and the ability to record in 1,080P HD resolution and 30 frames per second are all high-end features of that rear snapper. Continuous autofocus while video recording is also on board, as is a front facing chat cam.
