Nokia has finally announced the Lumia 1020, which sports the 41 MP camera from the 808 PureView on the Windows Phone platform. This marks the integration of phase 1 (the camera technology on the 41 MP PureView) with that of phase 2 (which implements the image stabilization technology that first appeared in the Nokia Lumia 920). The so called ‘firsts’ on both these camera centred phones will now be merged on the same device, with the flavour of an all new platform. Nokia took to the stage to unveil what could possibly set the benchmark for what a cameraphone should be.

The Lumia 1020 sports a 4.5 inch screen with a resolution of 768×1280 pixels. Trademark PureMotion HD+ on AMOLED, a ClearBlack filter and Gorilla Glass 3 offers blur free visuals, a high contrast ratio and low reflection levels. The usual high-brightness mode that Nokia phones offer will offer visibility under sunlight as well. The supersensitive touchscreen can be operated with gloves as well.
The phone will come in three colours – black, yellow and white. The phone is a little lighter and thinner that the Lumia 920. Wireless charging ability has been made optional by Nokia on this handset. The phone will be powered by a Qualcomm 1.5 GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 processor, with 2 GB RAM and 32 GB of internal memory. The 2000 mAh battery will offer 7 hours of video playback and 13 hours of talk time, all features becoming of an excellent flagship device. The stereo Rich Recording technology acquired from HAAC mics is set to offer the best surrounding video recording from any phone; another feature derived from the 808 PureView.
Now let’s look at the specs of the camera. It’s a breathtaking 41 MP BSI 1/1.2” sensor on the back, with 3X lossless zoom, six-elements lens with a ZEISS lens and second generation OIS suspension that will offer shake free videos and blur free photos in low lighting conditions. The PureView is designed to offer two modes for taking photographs, one being the PureView 5MP mode which ensures easy sharing and then there is the high resolution mode that offers the ability to capture the most intricate of details.
Coming along for the ride is the Pro Camera app, which leverages all the vast power of the hardware behind it and encompasses pro shooting modes and control over shutter times. ISO, manual focus and exposure settings are some of the other features that can be tweaked.
