Nokia is getting into just about every single market that it can over the last couple years and even though companies like Samsung have a strong hold on the phablet market, Nokia is going to give them a run for the money with the new Lumia 1520. The company announced the device this week, alongside the Lumia 1320 and the Lumia 2520, officially getting into place to compete inside the highly competitive phablet market. More companies are starting to understand that consumers want a larger display with 1080p resolutions and quad-core processors and they are here to provide them to consumers.
The Lumia 1520 looks huge when you first see someone holding the device, but when you sit back, it really only measures less than a half inch more than the Galaxy Note 3 that just arrived from Samsung. Many thought that the original Lumia smartphones were larger than they should be at 4.5-inches, but that might have been because they were also bulky to a degree. The Lumia 1020 looking tiny compared to the Lumia 1520 and it will certainly take a little while to get used to for those that are used to a smaller smartphone.
The phone comes with a polycarbonate body available in red, yellow, black or the color white. The huge, 6-inch display has the 1080p HD resolution which makes colors pop and comes with plenty of viewing angles should you need that option. The support for 1080p HD displays is something new for Windows Phone devices and it actually allows for another three columns of Live Tiles on the Start Screen. Improvements to built-in apps comes with the new resolution allowing users to use more of the screen with things like reading emails and viewing images or movies.
The Nokia Lumia 1520 does not come with stylus support like the Galaxy Note 3 from Samsung, but many would consider that an accessory rather than a requirement for a phablet. The 1520 comes with the 20MP camera sensor and even though it is not the huge 41MP camera sensor found on the Lumia 1020, it will take photos in low light with just as good a quality, which makes them perfect for sharing with your friends. The lower megapixel file makes it easier to crop, edit and share right from your phone.
