In the smartphone scene, there is a tendency for handsets to look virtually like a slab of black plastic and this design aesthetics is very apparent in the Android ecosystem. In fact, there is a tendency for one smartphone to look almost like the next although there are of different brands. It looks like OEMs have no intention of giving a lot of importance to the design of a smartphone. Take the case of the Samsung Galaxy S III for example. In terms of its specs sheet, nothing beats the Samsung flagship device. But when you look at its aesthetics, you’ll know that somewhere, something went wrong.

This is where the Nokia Lumia 900 sets itself apart from the rest of the smartphone pack. The handset packs a beautiful design concept that caused interest on the handset to rise. And at one point in the past, one analyst even claimed that the design and aesthetics of the Nokia Lumia 900 is one of the main reasons for its popularity. Because of this, the handset came to the attention of the jurors at the IDEA (International Design Excellence Awards) and was chosen by the jury to be awarded the Gold Award.

For the uninitiated, IDEA is hosted annually by the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan and aims to fete products that show excellence in their designs. Jonah Becker, one of the jurors, had some nice things to say about the Nokia Lumia 900 4G and we quote, “In a market in which it is difficult to stand out, the Nokia Lumia brings a fresh perspective. The iconic form is personal and inviting without sacrificing precision, and the construction is modern, efficient and well-crafted down to the smallest details. It’s a bold, gold-worthy effort, and I’m glad to see Nokia reclaim its design swagger.”

Once again, the Nokia Lumia 900 4G has proven that is a stand-out product that richly deserves all the attention it has been given in the past. However, word on the street though is that the handset is already on its way out with the impending arrival of Windows Phone 8 devices. Despite this, the Nokia Lumia 900 4G remains a very capable device and one of the more beautifully-designed handsets to be released in the market.

Under the hood, the Nokia Lumia 900 4G packs a QualComm APQ8055 SnapDragon chipset and this SoC brings to the handset a Scorpion processor clocked at 1.4 GHz, 512MB of RAM and a dedicated Adreno 205 GPU to handle graphical concerns. It has 16GB of internal storage while its 4.3-inch ClearBlack-powered AMOLED display packs a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. The camera of the handset was the biggest beneficiary of the Tango update and this rear shooter has a sensor resolution of 8MP while its front snapper is a 1.3MP video call camera.
