The Nokia Lumia 900 4G has become a YouTube sensation, as it was recently shown in a brutal hammer torture test on that online social network. A YouTube user touting the nearly impervious nature of the Corning Gorilla Glass display repeatedly hammers a nail into the handset’s display, and then uses that same display to drive a nail an inch deep into a piece of lumber. He then shows that no scratches or chips are present, and the handset functions normally. Obviously this is not something that AT&T nor Nokia recommend you do with your Lumia 900 4G smartphone, one of the first handsets with a Windows operating system to deliver 4G LTE connectivity. For those who haven’t seen the video yet, we’ve provided it below.
Currently exclusive to the AT&T 4G LTE network, the Nokia Lumia 900 4G Windows Phone 7.5 Mango handset recently received a retail price slashing down to $19.99 with a standard new two-year activation and data plan from select retailers. The handset delivers the largest touch screen display Nokia has ever made for a smartphone, at 4.30 inches. The Lumia 900 4G uses more than 16 million different colors when creating visual displays, and the pixel density runs 217 pixels every inch. That makes for an overall screen resolution of 480 x 800 pixels on the Nokia ClearBlack AMOLED display which is integrated with standard proximity and light sensors, for automatic brightness adjustment and battery conservation.
The Lumia 900 handset delivers the most current Windows Phone operating system out-of-the-box, version 7.5 Mango, and talk time runs up to 7.00 hours from a single charge of the 1,830 mA battery on board. Standby time runs 14.6 days from a single battery charge, and the hardware package on board includes a Qualcomm APQ8055 Snapdragon suite of microchips. That includes a Scorpion CPU clocked at 1.4 GHz and a graphics dedicated Adreno 205 GPU, as well as 16 GB of data storage built-in, and 512 MB of RAM memory.
A special Carl Zeiss high-end optics package has been added to the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder, and video capture is offered in1,280 x 720 pixels (720p HD) and at 30 frames per second, with the front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam also delivering video call support. That rear snapper offers extra-wide image and video capture, and delivers autofocus, touch to focus, video stabilization, exposure control and Geo tagging features. In the multimedia package aboard the Nokia Lumia 900 4G Windows smartphone, a pre-installed YouTube video player, and a built-in music player are present. You can purchase the Nokia Lumia 900 starting at just $19.
