On Tuesday, September 4, smartphone manufacturer Nokia announced the launch of their brand-new free music streaming service, with the Lumia 900 4G one of the first devices in the United States to offer the freebie. Nokia Music is designed to offer Lumia 900 owners the ability to access over 1 million songs and over 150 unique play lists which are kept current by what Nokia calls “an expert team of US-based musicologists.” Unlike many applications and software that arrive free-of-charge, the service requires no registration and is absolutely free of all advertising. You can even access the playlists off-line.
In the announcement, Nokia’s VP of entertainment Jyrki Rosenberg stated that his company believes the USA ” … is the most vibrant and competitive digital music market in the world – by a wide margin.” He went on to state that the Korean-based company has worked especially hard to deliver just what the “demanding, active and inspired music fans in the USA” expect from their music experience. He then openly stated he would like to “challenge everyone” to try Nokia Music on for size.
The Nokia Lumia 900 arrived on April 8 of this year in the United States as one of the first smartphones with a Windows Phone operating system that also supported LTE connectivity. The Nokia Lumia 900 4G handset is currently offered by AT&T in the US, and features a polycarbonate unibody available in different colors. An extensive Carl Zeiss camera optics package featuring a double wide mode for extra scene width, ClearBlack display technology, speedy processor and Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh OS are just a few of the handset’s highlights.
The Nokia Lumia 900 offers a 4.30 inch AMOLED display which represents images in more than 16 million colors. Standard multitouch gestures are supported, light and proximity sensors are built into the handset, and a protective layer of scratch resistant Gorilla Glass overlays the screen. Pixel density runs 217 pixels per inch for an overall screen resolution of 480 x 800 pixels.
The hardware package on board centers around a 1.4 GHz Scorpion CPU, which is joined by an Adreno 205 graphics processor in the Qualcomm Snapdragon S2 APQ8055 microchip suite. 512 MB of RAM memory are built into the handset, as is 16 GB of data storage space. The rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder records video in 720P HD resolution, and is joined by a 1.3 megapixel chat cam in the camera combo. The handset also delivers an FM radio, built-in music player and YouTube video player.
