It looks as though the announcement of the LTE-packing iPhone 5 has prompted the major carriers in our side of the world to do some expansion of their respective LTE networks. Sprint has already gone ahead and announced that it will add a hundred markets to its coverage while Verizon has confirmed that it will expand its network by September 20, a day before the next generation iPhone is supposed to hit the shelves.
Not to be left behind, AT&T is doing some expansion of its own which will be a good news for those AT&T subscribers toting an LTE-capable smartphone such as the Nokia Lumia 900 from the wireless provider. According to the latest announcement from the carrier, the LTE network of AT&T is now live and online in Birmingham, AL and Memphis, TN. The carrier is undertaking an expansionist policy as of the moment and is slowly but surely rolling out its LTE network to cover the whole of US shores and the two areas mentioned above are the latest markets to get some AT&T LTE loving. Not only that, the wireless provider also has a large number of markets and cities that are scheduled to get a taste of the carrier’s LTE network by the end of 2012.
So if you happen to rock a Nokia Lumia 900 4G and are somewhere in the vicinity of Birmingham, Al or Memphis, TN, expect to see “LTE” displayed prominently on your handset’s display right beside the signal bar. Those who already had the chance to take advantage of AT&T’s LTE network in the said areas attest to the fact that LTE speeds are almost 7 times faster compared to conventional 3G signal. One user even confirmed that confirmed that he was able to achieve an average download speed of 7,760 KB/s via LTE compared to the paltry 1,778KB/s speeds on 3G. a very welcome and refreshing change, indeed, if I may say so.
As for the Nokia Lumia 900 4G, the handset may already be on its way out because its successor is already slowly making its way to the shelves of AT&T but AT&T subscribers in the two markets mentioned earlier can still make use of the handset to take full advantage of the LTE network of the wireless provider.
The Nokia Lumia 900 4G packs some impressive components in its internals and central to all of these is the handset’s QualComm APQ8055 SnapDragon chipset. This SoC comes with a 1.4 GHz Scorpion processor and 512 MB of RAM while the storage space onboard the handset comes up to 16GB. Its display on the other hand is a 4.3-inch AMOLED panel powered by ClearBlack technology and has a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels. In addition to that, the display of the Nokia Lumia 900 4G is made from Gorilla Glass so scratches and dings are the least of your worries when using the handset. Its camera department is just as impressive with the handset’s rear-facing 8MP shooter and front-facing 1.3MP video call camera.
