For the longest time, the Nokia Lumia 900 4G has been the flagship device of the Finnish smartphone manufacturer. But now, the handset is about to get shown the door because Nokia has already announced its successor, the Nokia Lumia 920. The announcement was made at the Microsoft/Nokia even in New York and gave credence to what the previously released teasers were all about – the Nokia Lumia 920 is the first Lumia PureView handset.

Design-wise, there is not much difference between the Nokia Lumia 920 and its predecessor. It has the same unibody design made from polycarbonate we saw in the Nokia Lumia 900 4G and it has dimensions of 130.3 x 70.8 x 10.7 mm. It is a bit hefty though at 185 grams and this catch weight makes the Nokia Lumia 920 even heftier than the massive Samsung Galaxy Note. The handset will be made available in black, yellow and glossy white colorways but the pricing and availability info of the Nokia Lumia 920 is not available yet as of press time.

Under the hood, the Nokia Lumia 920 packs severely impressive specs. In fact, we did not expect that the handset will come with such fire-breathing components in its internals. The handset will ship with Microsoft Windows Phone 8 for its operating system and this will draw power from the Nokia Lumia 920’s QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon S4 chipset which is basically the same chipset found in the internals of the Samsung Galaxy S III. The similarities do not end there because the handset has the same processor as that of the Samsung flagship device which is a dual-core Krait processor clocked at 1.5 GHz. Its system memory though is only pegged at just 1GB but we are pretty sure that this processor-RAM combination in the internals of the Nokia Lumia 920 is more than capable enough to handle tasks that will be thrown at it. With the Lumia 920 coming down the pipe, the Nokia Lumia 900 4G is offered at an even better deal!

The internal storage of the Nokia Lumia 920 comes up to a very generous 32GB but similar to its predecessor, there is no option for memory expansion on the device due to the lack of a microSD card slot in its chassis. In terms of its display, the handset sports a 4.5-inch PureMotion HD+ panel with a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels. The display itself is made from Corning’s famed Gorilla Glass so scratches and dings are the least of your concerns on this baby. What’s neat with the display of the handset is that it automatically adjusts its screen color and brightness depending on the ambient light in the surroundings.

As for its shooting department, the Nokia Lumia 920 packs an 8MP shooter that makes use of PureView technology and Carl Zeiss optics at its back panel. This shooter is capable of capturing stills of up to 3264 x 2448 pixels and recording 1080p video clips at 30 frames per second. Completing the dual-shooter configuration of the handset is the Nokia Lumia 920’s front-facing 1.3MP camera which can be used to snap self-portraits and enjoy video calls with family and friends.
