Back in the day, Nokia was one of the premier manufacturers in the smartphone competition. This was brought about by the popularity of the Finnish manufacturer’s E-Series line of smartphones. However, everything did not end well for Nokia because the manufacturer got relegated to the back seat when other manufacturers such as Apple, Samsung, HTC, Motorola and the like entered the smartphone competition and began flooding the market with their respective devices.

Because of this development, Nokia was forced to go back to feature phones but the manufacturer did not lose sight of its goal of making it big again in the smartphone competition. It started its bid last year by joining software giant Microsoft in a strategic alliance and started manufacturing smartphones for the Windows Phone ecosystem. The manufacturer then launched the Nokia Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 in a bid for smartphone supremacy and this was followed by the launch of the Nokia Lumia 900 4G via AT&T earlier this year.

Now, Nokia is stepping up on its aim to reclaim lost glory in the smartphone competition with the release of the Nokia Lumia 920, its newest flagship device for the Windows Phone platform. The handset is set to be released in our side of the world via AT&T where it is expected to be an exclusive with the carrier but there has been no solid word yet as to when exactly it will become available for public consumption.

While Windows Phone fanboys in US shores are eagerly awaiting the debut of the Nokia Lumia 920 in US shores, our smartphone-crazed brethren in Canadian territories north of the border already have the chance to get their hands on the handset. Rogers, one of the major Canadian wireless providers, have already announced that it has started shipping the Nokia Lumia 920 in limited quantities to some of its customers who reserved the handset via the Rogers Reservation System. The carrier also confirmed that more units of the handset are expected to ship shortly.

In other news, Rogers is also expected to launch the HTC Windows Phone 8X but the Windows Phone flagship device of the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer isn’t expected to hit Canadian shelves until November.

As for the Nokia Lumia 920, the handset is powered by Windows Phone 8 for its operating system and this draws power from the smartphone’s QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset. With this SoC under the hood, the Nokia Lumia 920 can rely on a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and 1GB of RAM to deliver the computing muscle the handset needs for a flawless performance. The smartphone comes with 32GB of onboard storage while its display is a 4.5-inch PureMotion HD+ IPS TFT capacitive multitouch panel made from Gorilla Glass 2 and has a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels. The camera department of the Nokia Lumia 920 on the other hand boasts of a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.3MP snapper.
