The Nokia Lumia 920 is definitely a unique handset in many ways. It is the first Windows Phone 8 smartphone from Nokia with a true HD screen and modern dual core processor. The handset launched on November 9 on the AT&T 4G LTE system in the US, and it provides a nice departure from the black or white offerings of most smartphones, by also allowing you your choice of red, yellow or cyan body colors. And unlike most every other handset out there, since it runs the Windows Phone 8 OS it syncs perfectly with your Microsoft powered desktop, laptop or mobile PC, as well as Xbox gaming console.
The handset also delivers Dolby sound enhancement for better audio, and offers extremely high pixel density per high screen resolution. The 4.5 inch ClearBlack display technology used on the handset gives excellent visibility in direct sunlight, and Nokia is calling this screen the “fastest LCD display” they have ever created. Called PureMotion HD+, the technology used actually creates a refresh rate that is up to 2.5 times faster than the typical smartphone. The Nokia Lumia 920 also comes with hypersensitive touchscreen awareness, allowing you to use the handset even while wearing gloves.
Corning lends the Nokia Lumia 920 a protective layer of Gorilla Glass 2 for scratch and chip resistance, and the more than 16 million colors which show up on the display are delivered at a rate of 332 pixels per inch. Overall screen resolution runs 768 x 1,280 pixels, with standard proximity and light sensors helping to automatically control the screen brightness level while conserving battery life. The handset delivers excellent battery performance at nearly twice the 4G average, with 17.0 hours of talk time offered from a single battery charge.
Standby time runs approximately 16.7 days, with popular online destinations Facebook, Twitter, Picasa and YouTube pre-installed and ready for use out-of-the-box. The Nokia Lumia 920 is also Near Field Communication (NFC) enabled, and offers the Internet Explorer 10 web browser for Internet access. The Nokia Lumia 920 4G offers plenty of storage at 32 GB built-in, the most offered by any smartphone, but also adds 7 GB of SkyDrive cloud storage. An Adreno 225 GPU is on board to handle all your graphics processing, while a dual core 1.5 GHz central processor joins it in the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 chip set with LTE radio support.
The handset also delivers 1.0 GB of RAM system memory, and comes equipped with a built-in music player. A Carl Zeiss optics package returns from previous Lumia models, and this time receives an attractive ceramic zirconium camera detailing package. The 8.7 megapixel camcorder benefits from extra wide video and image capture, as does the 1.3 megapixel chat cam on the front of the handset. That front device offers video call support, while the rear facing camcorder has a host of customization features, and records video in 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (1,080P HD resolution) and at 30 frames per second.
