The United States as a market for mobile phone manufacturers is extremely important in determining global sales. The performance in the U.S market usually rubs on to others and helps in coming to a conclusion if whether the device is considered a success. And so the only way Windows Phone manufacturer Nokia can spur growth of the Windows Phone market in a very heavily Android and iOS infested market is by making its presence felt by continually launching new devices. Nokia has paid heed to this by launching two new devices, the Lumia 925 and the Lumia 928 running Windows Phone 8. The Lumia 925 would be launched globally in the coming months.
The Nokia Lumia 928 4G Black is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $29.99.
All leading carriers in the United States now have a Lumia device in their lineup with the exception of Sprint. Sprint has issued a statement that it will soon launch a Windows Phone 8 device but haven’t shed any light to whether this Windows Phone device would be from Nokia or rival manufacturers like HTC and Samsung who have Windows Phone plans of their own (however unlikely). Due to Nokia’s absence with top carriers, sales of the flagship Lumia 920 have reduced by 33% since the last quarter. The current scenario of the mobile phone market is such that Windows Phone devices and Nokia go hand in hand. Lumia has become synonymous with the Windows Phone platform; with its rivals mainly focusing on building Android based smart phones.
Though the market share of Windows Phone devices is relatively small, Nokia has managed to garner a lion’s share of it with 80% of Windows Phone device sales accounted for being from Nokia’s Lumia range of devices. Nokia was further helped by BlackBerry as the latter delayed release of its flagship phones with BB10 operating system. With PC sales falling for Microsoft, the company will try to push the Lumia brand to get more revenue from their mobile devices. With Nokia already leading the race with Lumia, launching new phones with Nokia would need no advertising as well. Then again, it is up to the people to adopt the Windows Phone OS as an alternative to Android and iOS. With Blackberry fading away at the global level, Nokia will have to eat into the Android/iOS market for growth.
The Nokia Lumia 928 4G Black can be purchased at a discounted price tag now starting at $29.99.
