The cell phone heavyweight Nokia has finally done it. They have finally released the device that could save the shareholder’s money, help Finnish tax collectors and bring a smile to the faces of the Nokia loyalists. The heavily leaked and yet highly anticipated handset may very well live up to its expectations. Design wise, the Lumia 800 resembles the N9.
This phone is now being called the first ‘real Windows phone’. Powered by a 1.4 Ghz processor, the device is sculpted with a 12 mm thick piece of polycarbonate plastic, with tapering edges to make it feel thinner than it actually is. The phone utilizes an AMOLED display of 800 x 480 pixel resolution, along with 16 GB of fixed storage space.
While the Lumia 800 may sparkle, the developers in Nokia decided to make a more modest offering to the phone market as well. Enter the Lumia 710, the thicker and less expensively built counterpart of the Lumia 800. Including taxes, this phone will set you back a little less than 400 USD, making sure it is keenly priced for today’s markets. Its low price may also add to the sales that the model generates in emerging markets. However, it seems to lack certain specifications that make the Lumia 800 just stand out.
The phone comes with a 5 MP camera, a resistive yet functional non AMOLED screen, and an internal storage of only 8GB, with no space for another MicroSD card. This might work adversely for the company, unless they implement their cloud computing schemes quickly.
For those of you on an even tighter budget who do not feel the need to buy a smartphone, Nokia has introduced three new low cost models as well. These do not run on the Windows OS of course. The first of these models is the Nokia 200 with dual SIM capabilities. Design wise, the phone resembles the C3-00, with a QWERTY keyboard and a non-touch screen. Pre-tax, this model is priced at around 85 USD. This phone boasts of a rather impressive extended battery life.
Another model is the Nokia 300, which boasts of a 2.4 inch resistive touchscreen and a design similar to the Nokia C3 that was released last year. The phone sports a 1 Ghz processor and a 5 MP camera. All for 120 USD. The last new phone released is the Nokia 303, priced at 160 USD. This phone combines both QWERTY and touch screen capabilities. The phone also sports a 3.2 MP camera. While the Lumia800 and Lumia 710 may hog the limelight, these sub 200 USD prices may attract enough customers to keep the company comfortably afloat.
