A couple of days ago, the HTC Thunderbolt from Verizon was splashed in the headlines and had too much share of digital ink when Steve Wozniak claimed that the handset is one of the worst gadgets he ever bought. Though the comment may sting a little, at least those of you who are still holding on to that HTC Thunderbolt can have something nice to look forward to. After all, the handset is scheduled to get upgraded to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich before the end of August.
However, if you are brave and adventurous and want to see how the official Ice Cream Sandwich update for the HTC Thunderbolt looks like, it will excite you to know that an official ICS ROM for the handset has recently surfaced. The ROM is courtesy of the hardworking boys of Team BAMF and is said to be the leak of the actual Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich update that Verizon and HTC will release in due time. They also confirmed that the ROM includes HTC Sense 3.6 and everything is already functioning (phone calls, 3G / 4G connectivity, SMS / MMS and others) so this can already be used as a daily driver if you don’t have plans of waiting for the official update to get rolled out. On a side note, although is not officially from Verizon, it will be the same update that will get officially released by the carrier before the month is out.
Again, this is the part where we caution you to be very, very careful if you have plans of flashing this onto your device. Time and again, we have reminded you guys that tinkering with your device is the surest way to void your warranty (if there is any left for your handset, that is) or worse, turn your device into a paperweight. If you have the guts to check this out and know what you are doing, go ahead and flash the leaked ICS ROM onto your HTC Thunderbolt. If not, you are better off waiting for the official update from Verizon for that matter.
As for the HTC Thunderbolt, the handset is already an aging device having been announced back in January of last year and released in March. It has the distinction of being the first LTE-capable smartphone to be added to the lineup of Verizon and it measures 122 x 66 x 13 mm and it tips the scales at 164 grams. It has a QualComm MSM8655 SnapDragon chipset in its internals and the computing power the handset requires is generated by its 1 GHz Scorpion processor and 768 MB of RAM. The storage space onboard the HTC Thunderbolt is a bit meager at just 4GB but since the handset has a microSD card slot in its chassis, a user can use this to expand the internal memory of the handset. In terms of its display, the HTC Thunderbolt comes with a 4.3-inch TFT panel with a 480 x 800 resolution while its camera department features a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.3MP snapper.

There is no issues I’ve experienced with using this Rom. It looks nice and functions perfectly. Just remember to close the processes after you’re done using them. As it is originally statef the phone can run it just needs a bit more ram to process multiple applications

No problems so far with this ROM. Due to its age and single core processor, I did not expect ICS to make it to the bolt. I am glad it did, becuase I need to hang on to the bolt so as to keep my unlimited data plan with big red.
