LG Thrill 4G: While the LG Thrill 4G 3D has just recently hit US shores, the Optimus 3D Android handset has been available overseas for some time, and was released as only the second mobile handset to offer 3D viewing technology without the need for 3D glasses or extraneous hardware. Actually not “true” 3D, the way that a 3D image or video is created is by stereoscopic technology. This means that two views are taken of an object from different viewpoints, and then those two images are used to simulate a 3D image or video.
Finally arriving in the United States recently, the Optimus 3D was renamed the LG Thrill 4G 3D handset and is offered exclusively for the AT&T 4G mobile broadband network. Previous to its American arrival, the HTC Evo 3-D handset was the only smartphone to allow viewing of 3D content on its 4.3 inch screen without employing some 3D glasses or other accessory. Since its arrival in the US, the LG Thrill 3D remains only the second phone in America to offer this glasses free 3D viewing capability.
Also offering a 4.3 inch screen, the LG Thrill 4G 3D handset uses a Parallax Barrier LCD display with capacitive touch screen technology that supports multitouch gestures. The display is rendered with up to 16 million colors, and light and proximity sensors are also built into the screen. The LG Thrill 3D handset is slightly heavier than the average 4G smartphone (4.4 ounces) at 5.9 ounces (168 g), and measures 5.07 x 2.68 x 0.47 inches (128.8 x 68 x 11.9 mm).
A dual core 1.0 GHz Texas Instruments OMAP4 processor is built into the Thrill 3D handset, and relies on 512 MB of RAM memory for support. There is also a 3-D graphics hardware accelerator on board, and Google’s Android 2.2 Froyo operating system is present out-of-the-box, with a promise from AT&T for an October over the air update to the Gingerbread 2.3 OS. Buy the LG Thrill 4G starting at only $19.99!
The LG Thrill 4G 3D handset also has the ability to record video and still pictures in 3D, and offers recording speeds of up to 24 frames per second and resolution in 3D of 720P HD, and 1080P HD when recording in 2D. Recording is handled by dual rear facing 5 megapixel camcorders with autofocus and dual LED flash features. Video recording is handled in either MPEG4 or H.264 file formats. The LG Thrill 4G 3D Android smartphone is offered at a retail price of $19 with a two-year activation on the AT&T 4G network. Learn more about this innovative 3D smartphone in our LG Thrill Review.

Not “True” 3D, what do you consider true 3D? All 3D media is stereoscopic, because your eyes view the world using stereoscopic vision.

What is the stereo base between the lens centers? What are the sensor sizes of each of the two sensors? What are the focal lengths of each of the two lenses? Why does the visual on the display that is pictured show only one lens?
