Back in the day, Finnish smartphone manufacturer Nokia was one of the leading OEMs in the smartphone competition. This came about with the success and popularity of its E-series line of devices but things will not always go Nokia’s way. Shortly after other OEMs such as Apple, HTC, Samsung, Motorola and the like entered the smartphone fray and began flooding the market with their respective devices, things started going downhill for Nokia from then on.
The Nokia Lumia 920 is available for under $1 at select online retailers now starting at $49.99.
The Finnish manufacturer was relegated to a mere spectator status while the other manufacturers mentioned about had all the fun and obviously all the profits in the smartphone market. Nokia on the other hand went back to staying afloat by concentrating on feature phones while plotting for a move that will propel it back to the forefront of things in the smartphone market. Its chance came when it entered into strategic partnership with software giant Microsoft to produce handsets for the Windows Phone ecosystem.
Its bid to reclaim its lost glory and become relevant again in the smartphone market was started with the release of the Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 last year followed by the launch of the Lumia 900 earlier this year. Since then, the Finnish manufacturer steadily built a following in the Windows Phone platform and striking while the irons of interest were hot, Nokia launched the Nokia Lumia 920 a couple of months back.
The Nokia Lumia 920 4G as of the moment is one of the more popular handsets in the Windows Phone platform and according to a report of Yahoo China, orders for the handset have already reached the 2.5 million mark despite the fact that the smartphone has only been out for just a couple of weeks. Not only that, the report also outlines that the device is already pretty much sold out everywhere including the US, Germany and Australia. In addition to that, one of AT&T’s authorized retailers already has an out of stock sign for the yellow and cyan version of the handset – all of which are pointing to the relative popularity of the handset among the smartphone-buying population.
As for the Nokia Lumia 920, the handset reached official status when it was announced back in September but the handset only managed to hit the shelves of AT&T a couple of days back. The handset already runs Windows Phone 8 for its operating system, the latest iteration of the Windows Mobile OS and this is powered by a QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset under the hood. This SoC gives the Nokia Lumia 920 a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and a full gigabyte of RAM. The storage space onboard the Nokia Lumia 920 comes up to 32GB but sad to say, memory expansion is not an option on this handset. In terms of its display, the handset comes with a 4.5-inch PureMotion HD+, ClearBlack –powered IPS TFT panel made from Gorilla Glass 2 with a 1280 x 768 resolution while its camera department boasts of a rear 8MP shooter and a 1.3MP snapper.
You can purchase the Nokia Lumia 920 for a reduced price now starting at $49.99.
