The Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, the big brother of the Samsung Galaxy Note, has been available for quite some time now and since its release, it has had its share of digital ink – some of it good, some of it bad. This time around, the tablet is making it to the headlines yet again but at least in a good way. It turns out that the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is receiving a small OTA update that brings a couple of bug fixes to several annoying quirks on the tablet.
The said update weighs in at approximately 75MB and is being rolled out via OTA. This means that you should be waking up to a notification on your Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 that lets you know of the update’s availability. If the notification is nowhere to be found, you have the option of manually checking for the update by going to Settings > About device > System update to initiate the update process.
The official changelog of the update hasn’t been made available yet but early adopters of the update are sounding off in different forums that the update is more of a small maintenance update and not the promised Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1. Although the tablet stays on Ice Cream Sandwich after the update has been applied, it at least takes care of annoying quirks on the tablet such as its compatibility issues with 64GB microSD cards. The issues concerning the keyboard of the tablet where it will erratically pop up has already been taken care of as well, thanks to this update. Users who already took advantage of the update also reported that it brought some new options and fixed the palm zoom issue of the S-Note app of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 as well.
As for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, the tablet was announced by Samsung last August was made available off the shelves during the same month. It measurements come up to 262 x 180 x 8.9 mm and it tips the scales at 600 grams. Sad to say, not everybody is quite happy with the build quality of the tablet and this been a major source of criticism for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1.
Under the hood though, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 is as capable as it can get. It runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for its operating system but an upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is planned for the device. Its circuitry is built around its Exynos 4412 Quad chipset which basically gives the tablet a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor clocked at 1.4 GHz and a 2 GB of RAM. It is available in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB in terms of storage space with the option for memory expansion made possible by the microSD card slot in its chassis. Display-wise, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 sports a 10.1-inch PLS TFT capacitive multitouch panel with a 1280 x 800 resolution while its dual-shooter configuration features a rear 5MP shooter and front 1.9MP snapper.
