Quick … name a Korean smartphone manufacturer! No, not Samsung Electronics. And no again, not LG. We were thinking of Pantech, the Korean manufacturer of what may be the coolest smartphone you have never heard of. Pantech makes the Discover 4G, which provides one of the largest screens in the entire smartphone marketplace, 4G LTE connectivity and a high-resolution 12.6 megapixel camera. And they do all of that for around $49 on the AT&T network in the United States with a standard two-year contract.
Pantech is obviously not as well known as the two smartphone manufacturers listed above, but they tend to focus on smartphones with original designs that also offer attractive features, while keeping your cost at a minimum. The Pantech Discover 4G is an excellent example of a smartphone with a huge, high resolution display and dual core processor that only requires an initial investment most frequently found on low-end entry-level handsets and feature phones.
And one feature on the Pantech Discover might make it one of the most attractive smartphones to parents who are purchasing devices for their children. The Pantech Discover is the first smartphone in the world that offers the DriveMode App pre-installed. That is the new smartphone application which uses GPS technology to block texting while driving. It works like this. You set up auto-replies to texts, e-mails and even phone calls that let others know you are driving and will get back to them shortly. You can even program your own customized reply messages.
Also, in case of emergency 911 telephone calls are not blocked. And since listening to music in your vehicle or using GPS technology for navigation are two activities often used while driving, you can set one music app and one navigation app for full functionality while you drive. And the massive 4.8 inch 720P display delivers 720 x 1,280 pixel resolution. However, the handset is still slim at 0.36 inches (9.1 mm), and light at 4.76 ounces (135 g).
The Pantech Discover also delivers front facing dual stereo speakers, a dual core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 central processor, Adreno 225 graphics processor and 10.0 hours of talk time from a full battery charge. The handset comes with 1.0 GB of RAM memory and 16 GB of built-in storage, also offering external memory card support for cards up to 32 GB in size. The 12.6 megapixel camcorder mentioned earlier joins a 2.0 megapixel chat cam in the handset’s camera combo, and is capable of 1,920 x 1,080 pixel (1,080P HD resolution) video recording.
