ABI Research is an online research and analysis company who recently delivered their expectations for sales of large screen smartphones with screens between 5.1 inches and 5.5 inches. The Samsung Galaxy Note arrived on the scene in February of this year on the AT&T 4G LTE network with a 5.3 inch screen, the largest in the smartphone marketplace, creating a new device category and coining the term Phablet (part phone, part tablet). ABI Research says there is compelling evidence and data that forecast as many as 208 million units of tablet devices being sold annually as early as 2015. Coinciding with that announcement is an AT&T price cut on the Samsung Galaxy Note 4G phablet to $199 on contract at select retailers.

Aside from delivering the largest smartphone display, the Galaxy Note 4G arrives with an integrated S Pen smart stylus which works in tandem with the multitouch, capacitive screen. With native handwriting recognition, the S Pen delivers such capabilities as write-to-text, write-to-e-mail, adding notes to videos and snapshots, and creating original artwork. That display is created with more than 16 million individual colors and more than 285 pixels per inch for an overall high resolution display of 800 x 1,280 pixels. Standard light and proximity sensors are on board for battery conservation.

Talk time runs approximately 25% better than the 4G smartphone average at 10.0 hours on a single charge of the oversized 2,500 mA battery. The Samsung Galaxy Note is scheduled to receive an over the air update to the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0 Android operating system by June 30, and the latest version of that OS delivers Google Wallet access which employs the Near Field Communications (NFC) support on the Galaxy Note. A Qualcomm MSM8660 microchip package powers the handset, and that includes a speedy dual core 1.5 GHz Scorpion processor and graphics dedicated Adreno 220 GPU. A full 1.0 GB of RAM memory is on board, as is 16 GB of built-in storage.

The 8.0 megapixel camcorder on the back of the handset delivers smile detection, a multishot mode, panorama mode, preloaded scenes and autofocus, and provides video capture at 1,080P HD resolution. The front facing 2.0 megapixel chat cam can also be used for making and receiving video calls. A proprietary YouTube video player joins a built-in music player in the multimedia package, popular online destinations Facebook, Twitter and Picasa come pre-installed, and the handset is currently available in your choice of either Ceramic White or Carbon Blue.  Buy the Samsung Galaxy Note starting at $199.

  2. I love the Note. After about a week I got use to its large size. Now everyone’s phones look tiny. Lol. You def need a good solid case as it can slip out of your hands easily.
