According to recent reports, the new Apple iPhone 4S has just surpassed the record of the previous iPhone 4 for the highest number of pre-orders in just its first 24 hours. According to a statement from Apple, the pre-orders for the iPhone 4S on the first day have already hit the 1 million mark, beating last year’s record of 600,000 set by the iPhone 4. The Senior Vice President for Apple in Worldwide Product Marketing, Philip Schiller, said today that the pre-orders for the 4S have been the highest ever for any Apple device ever released, stating that the company is very happy with the response of the customers.
However, it is worth noting that the comparison drawn by Apple between both the models of the iPhones is not actually on even grounds as the new iPhone has been offered through AT&T, Sprint and Verizon, whereas the iPhone 4 was only available with AT&T when it was released.
Last week, Apple revealed the iPhone 4S at a media event held at its headquarters in Cupertino, California. The design of the new device is identical to that of the iPhone 4; however it features several improvements over its predecessor which includes an 8 megapixel camera, a dual core processor and new voice control features. Along with this, Apple has also boasted about the new wireless connectivity capabilities of the 4S, which can use AT&T’s network to provide data transfer speeds of up to 14.4Mbps. Pre-order the Apple iPhone 4S stating at $199.
The phone comes in three models offering 16, 32 and 64 GB storage capacities. Before the iPhone event, several rumors were doing the rounds suggesting that Apple would unveil not one but two new iPhone models which included an iPhone 5 that would offer a number of big improvements like a display that stretched from edge to edge and also Near Field Communication technology.
After the showcasing of the 4S, many analysts labeled the event as a letdown. However, after the coming in of the latest pre-order figures, it seems that these predictions were wide off the mark. Even as Apple did not give a precise breakdown of the pre-order figures, AT&T had already stated last Friday that in just the first 12 hours of its availability, the carrier had registered more than 200,000 pre-orders for the iPhone 4S.
