Though the Samsung Galaxy S IV is set to hit the shelves anytime now, its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S III, is still one of the best smartphones you can get your hands on. It is the flagship device of the Korean smartphone and tablet manufacturer from last year and its components are still very impressive despite the handset’s aging status. In fact, the handset could probably be the most popular smartphone of 2012 because its sales figures have now breached the 50 million mark since getting released during the latter parts of May last year.
However, not all Samsung Galaxy S III handsets have gotten a taste of the Premium Suite upgrade yet such as the variant of the superphone released by Sprint in US shores. The update has already landed on other variants of the handset released by other US carriers but this time around, it is the turn of Sprint subscribers to get a feel of what this Premium Suite upgrade is all about.
As it stands, the Now Network has announced that an update is set to rollout to its variant of the Samsung Galaxy S III and this update is set to hit the airwaves starting April 24. With this in mind, users of the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III can now check their handsets for that little notification that will let them know once the update is already available to be downloaded and installed. Alternatively, these users can also go the manual way of checking for the update by going to Settings > System updates > Update Samsung Software to get the update process rolling.
Once applied to the handset, the update will crank up the software version of the Samsung Galaxy S III to L710VPBMD4 and will bring the following goodies and treats to the device:
- Home screen security fix
- Multi-view: Split Screen multitasking support
- Camera feature and gallery enhancements
- Addition of Paper Artist
- Bulk SMS Enhancements
- Addition of AllShare Cast
- Improved Samsung Gallery app
- Continuous Input function
- SmartDock for better compatibility with docking stations
As with other OTA updates, this will be rolled out in a staggered manner so not all Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III handsets will get it at the same time.
Going back to the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III, the handset has its circuitry built around a QualComm MSM8960 SnapDragon chipset and this SoC gives the handset a dual-core 1.5 GHz Krait processor and a whopping 2GB of RAM for a more snappy and buttery-smooth performance. The handset can be had in a 16GB and a 32GB version in terms of storage capacity with the option for memory expansion provided by its microSD card slot. Display-wise, the Samsung Galaxy S III comes with a 4.8-inch SuperAMOLED HD panel with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels while its camera department boasts of a rear 8MP shooter and a front 1.9MP video call and self-portrait snapper.
