Samsung recently announced that the Galaxy S III would begin an over the air upgrade to the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean operating system in October, without announcing a specific launch date. The 4.3 upgrade will bring several changes to the Sprint Galaxy S III, including the Bluetooth Smart application which will allow you to use your phone through wireless integration with fitness minded devices like heart rate monitors and other Bluetooth capable fitness equipment. Also, a parental blocking feature is on board the 4.3 update, allowing you to set profiles on your Galaxy S III customized to individual users.
Minor updates include an improved dial pad auto-complete and easier text input. It is hard to believe that the popular Galaxy S III arrived back in June of 2012, but ever since its arrival, and still today, its popularity has been strong. By delivering a slim and lightweight phone but still offering a large high-resolution display, the Galaxy S III continued in the popular and bestselling footsteps of the Samsung Galaxy S II. The phone measures just 0.34 inches (8.6 mm) in thickness, and weighs just 4.70 ounces (133 g).
The display on board the handset is protected by a scratch resistant layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2, and measures 4.80 inches. The True HD Super AMOLED screen delivers more than 16 million colors at the rate of 306 pixels per inch, offering a resolution of 720 by 1,280 pixels. Talk time on the Galaxy S III runs approximately 10.0 hours on the Sprint 4G LTE system in the United States, and the phone’s power pack is built around a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 system chip. A 32 GB model is also available, 2.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board, as is a microSD slot which supports external memory cards up to 64 GB in size.
The snapper on the back of the handset has an 8.0 megapixel sensor, and the Galaxy S 3 was one of the first handsets to deliver simultaneous high definition image and video capture. That rear shooter delivers an LED flash and back illuminated sensor (BSI) for low light operation, as well as an extensive special effects and customization package. A front facing chat cam is also on board, delivering Skype and video call support. Facebook, YouTube, Picasa and Twitter applications have been pre-installed and are ready for access out-of-the-box.
