LG has been announcing handset after handset this week and it shows no signs of slowing down as it takes center stage yet again with the announcement of what is expected to be the company’s flagship Android superphone this year in the form of the LG Optimus 4X HD which we came to know in the past as the LG X3. The device is the successor to the LG Optimus 2X, which was the world’s first smartphone to pack a dual-core processor when it was announced in the early parts of 2011, and is an upgraded version of the older device in every aspect.

The quad-core powered LG Optimus 4X HD is expected to be in direct competition with the HTC One X, the world’s first smartphone to have a quad-core processor in its internals. In addition to that, the LG flagship device is expected to ship with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich but will be overlaid with the company’s custom user interface as shown by the mug shots of the device released to the press. However, the LG Optimus 4X HD will have touch-sensitive keys below its massive display unlike the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, another ICS-powered device which only had virtual keys to boast of.

As of the moment, the specs sheet of the LG Optimus 4X HD is not yet as complete as we would want it to be but whatever we have managed to get our hands on, you can find below so read on to get a fill of what the LG Optimus 4X HD, LG’s first quad-core superphone, has to offer.

With the announcement of the LG Optimus 4X HD coming down this February, we can only expect the device to make its debut in the shelves in the second quarter of this year. Sad to say, LG has released the official measurements and catch weight of the device but we were informed that the handset will come in a chassis with a thinness of 8.9 mm.

Under the hood of the LG Optimus 4X HD is where things start to get interesting given the relative bland exterior of the handset that makes it look like a small slab of black plastic. Internally, the LG Optimus 4X HD is powered by an NVIDIA Tegra 3 chipset which bring quad-core goodness to the device via its ARM-Cortex-A9 MPCore processor clocked at 1.5 GHz. The processor will get support from a full gigabyte of RAM for some multitasking goodness and smooth performance while the internal memory of the handset is pegged at 16GB. It hasn’t been disclosed yet if the device will come with a dedicated memory expansion slot but we are expecting it to have one given its flagship status. The LG Optimus 4X HD as its name suggests brings HD goodness via its massive 4.7-inch HD-IPS display with a 1280 x 720 resolution while its camera department boasts of a main 8MP autofocus shooter at its back panel and a 1.3MP webcam at its front bezel.

As it stands, we expect to know more about the LG Optimus 4X HD once LG take center stage at the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona and whatever we hear there, you will be the first to know.
