Qualcomm makes some of the fastest processors for the mobile world and today the company announced they added a mobile app to their list of accomplishments. The new Snapdragon GameCommand mobile app is for finding and playing mobile games on devices equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors. The company also made an announcement they were going to be expanding the amount of games available in the Snapdragon GamePack. The GamePack highlights some of the best games that run on the Qualcomm processors. The new GameCommand app is aimed at bringing the games played on consoles and other casual games to the Qualcomm platform.
The company has decided that this move was to help get the most out of the Qualcomm Snapdragon processors and while the main focus is making super fast processors, the GamePack is a nice complimenting service the company provides. It has been compared to the way that Intel invests money in apps that compliment their chips or the way Nvidia invests in the Nvidia Tegra Zone for showing off their Android based games. The company made the announcement at a meeting with market analysts in New York saying the GamePack and GameCommand mobile app would be available for download in the early part of 2012 via the Android Market.
The GamePack has many game titles exclusive to Qualcomm including The Ball, Fight Game Heros and Galaga Special Edition. The GameCommand mobile app is going to make it easier for users to find and play the games that utilize the Snapdragon processor. The games can then be saved to one group and accessed with a simple swipe of the finger on phones or tablets. The new mobile app will also provide the users with game related news and updates.
“Qualcomm has received great user feedback since launching the Snapdragon GamePack, so we are expanding the quantity and quality of games while making them easier to locate through the launch of the Snapdragon GameCommand app,” said Raj Talluri, who is the VP of product management at Qualcomm.
According to some reports, over 60 percent of all smartphone users play games on their phones, so the move should be a good one for the company. The GamePack, which was launched in June has games from Advanced Mobile Applications, Booyah Inc, Gameloft, FISHLABS Entertainment, Glu Mobile, Guild Software, PopCap Games, Handy Games and many others that Qualcomm worked with closely for the project.
