The HTC Windows Phone 8X originally hit the AT&T network in the United States, but eventually found its way to T-Mobile and Verizon. The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system is home to the HTC Windows Phone 8X, and that network recently received a fire engine red color variant. The red 16 GB model is currently retailing for around $99 on contract at select online retail outlets like the Amazon Wireless store. Verizon also offers 8 GB models in multiple color options for around $49 on contract.
The most recent Windows Phone 8 operating system is on board, and the Verizon 8X also delivers Data Sense, an exclusive handset management and usage tracking feature. Basically, the Verizon 8X user gets several different ways to monitor data usage, and the application also compresses web pages. In addition to the 4G LTE service that the handset runs on, the Verizon 8X delivers quad band (850/900/1900/2100) HSPA+ and quad band (850/900/1800/1900) GSM / EDGE radios.
Verizon has kindly left those radios wide open, so the handset offers global roaming, and can even pick up GSM networks from AT&T and T-Mobile in the United States as well. The handset delivers the exclusive Beats Audio sound system for improved sound quality, amplifying the audio signal for the handset’s audio jack and speaker. Incidentally, this is the first Windows Phone to deliver Beats Audio, and the HTC Windows Phone 8X for Verizon is also NFC capable out-of-the-box.
Popular applications Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Picasa offer social networking out-of-the-box, and the pre-installed Internet Explorer mobile web browser is present as well. The display on the HTC WP8X device runs 4.30 inches and delivers excellent resolution and pixel density, running 720 x 1,280 pixels, offered at 342 pixels per inch. That Super LCD 2 display is protected against everyday abuse and wear and tear by a durable layer of scratch resistant Gorilla Glass 2, and more than 16 million colors are used to render visuals.
On the Verizon 4G LTE network up to 15.0 hours of talk time is achieved from a single charge, as is 12.5 days of standby battery power. A dual core 1.5 GHz CPU powers the handset, part of a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8960 microchip package. 1.0 GB of RAM memory and 16 GB of data storage are built-in. The new super wide-angle 88 degree front and back cameras capture nearly three times the area of most other smartphone cameras, and video capture runs 1,080P HD resolution.
