Nokia has already released the Lumia 822 with a new color on the Verizon Wireless network, so it should not come as any surprise that the company is about to do it again. This time, a leaked image shows the Nokia could be getting ready to release the Lumia 928 in the color red on the Verizon Wireless network. The image that leaked online this week, so what appears to be the shell of the Lumia 928 in line with other handsets. The unique part about the photo is that it is showing the handset in the color red.
The image is of a lab type setting where Nokia might test the durability of the shells that protect the smartphones that you buy. There are plenty of other Lumia shells in the image, but the red 928 is the most interesting, since it is a handset that has not been announced up to this point. The red Lumia 928 showed up one time before when an online source reportedly found an entry for a red handset with the model number “RM-860 VAR VRZ RED (059R227)” along with other numbers for black and white Lumia 928’s inside of Nokia’s NaviFirm firmware database.
Nokia is well known for offering handsets in more than one very bright color, but the Lumia 928 has only been made in black or white up until now. Those on the Verizon Wireless network might have been a little disappointed in the fact that the big red mobile carrier did not offer the new Lumia in the red color considering the 822 was already available. Since May consumers have been waiting to hear one way or another from Nokia or Verizon Wireless and by the looks of the image, it will not be long before an official announcement is made.
Just because the image showed up online does not mean that the product will make the store shelves, but the fact that Nokia went ahead and entered the phone in the firmware database, as well as created a red shell just to do durability testing, gives a little light at the end of the tunnel. The Nokia Lumia 928 showed up back in May and features a 4.5-inch AMOLED display with 768×1280 resolution, dual-core processor, graphics processor and 1GB of RAM. The camera is an 8.7MP sensor with LED and XENON flash that can also record 1080p video at 30 frames per second.
