The BlackBerry Bold 9900 has been available from Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile for a couple of months now, and AT&T’s promise to offer the BlackBerry Bold 9900 with RIM’s traditional physical QWERTY keyboard seems close to fruition. On one of AT&T’s official Twitter accounts recently, the wireless carrier stated that the BlackBerry Bold 9900 is “coming soon”, and that Tweet confirms persistent rumors which have been gathering steam on the blogosphere pointing to a November 6 launch date.
While no official retail price was Tweeted, the BlackBerry Bold 9900 smartphone is currently available from T-Mobile for $299, Verizon Wireless for $249 and Sprint for $199. All those retail prices are pursuant to a two-year contract. The handset was first announced back in May when Rim also announced the release of the CDMA version of the handset, the Bold 9930, as the first Bold smartphone to feature a touch screen display. The BlackBerry Bold 9900 runs the BlackBerry 7 operating system, and includes a full QWERTY keyboard located beneath a 2.8 inch capacitive touch screen offering 640 x 480 pixel resolution.
The BlackBerry Bold 9900 is also one of the few smartphones available today with NFC technology, providing its owners to check out at retail outlets sponsoring NFC capability without having to pull out their wallets or pocketbooks. BlackBerry handsets have always been average in size and weight in comparison to other smartphones, and the BlackBerry Bold 9900 is no different, measuring 4.53 x 2.60 x 0.41 inches (115 x 66 x 10.5 mm) and weighing in at 4.59 ounces (130 g).
As with many iterations of the BlackBerry handset in the past, the BlackBerry Bold 9900 supports multiple networks, those being GSM, GPRS, EDGE and also a tri-band HSPA+. The single core processor in the BlackBerry Bold 9900 is a 1.2 GHz QC 8655 chip and is supported with 768 MB of RAM memory. 8 GB of storage is built-in, and can be upgraded through the use of the on board microSD slot. The rear facing 5 megapixel camera records in 720P HD resolution, and both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless technologies are present.
