ipadmini2newApple is reportedly going to be releasing the next generation of the iPad Mini tablet this year and a new report indicates that it could arrive without the Retina display. The iPad Mini 2 is expected to arrive with the brand new A6 processor inside and the new iOS 7 software pre-installed, but even though many thought the display would be Retina, there are claims that might not be the case as Apple is reportedly testing the device without it. The original iPad Mini is just 9 months old, but is seeing increased competition from Google and Amazon both releasing new 7-inch tablets this year.

The Nexus 7 II and the Amazon Kindle Fire HD II are both coming to the market with improved performance, better display resolutions and faster processors leaving Apple no choice but to upgrade the iPad Mini. Up to this week, most of the sources claiming to know what is coming on the new iPad Mini say that the Retina display should be expected, while the other portion of sources claim that this year it will be without, but consumers can expect it with next year’s model.

Another report posted online claims that Apple is working on a lower cost iPad Mini to be released this year. That rumor has also shown up with the iPhone and now consumers are expecting that the iPhone 5C will show up sometime this year and at a lower cost. The only thing that can be agreed upon is the fact that Apple will be replacing the original iPad Mini with the iPad Mini 2. Everything else might have to wait until Apple can make an official announcement. The claims about not having a Retina display are coming from information posted online about code found within iOS 7, which is set to be released soon.

Developers that are looking over the code in order to create apps for the new software have found code within iOS 7 SDK which deals with all the devices that iOS 7 supports so far. On the list, developers found that three iPad Mini model numbers are included in the support for iOS 7. The models include one that is Wi-Fi only and one that is a cellular, or 4G LTE supported model and one more that is most likely another 4G LTE model with more storage.
