When the Samsung Galaxy Note first hit US shores courtesy of AT&T during the early parts of the year, it instantly became a hit despite the fact that it is a niche device and is designed for a specific portion of the population. In fact, the massive screen real estate of the phablet instantly endeared it to our smartphone-crazed brethren and the fact that it came with an impressive resume didn’t hurt either.
But now, the spotlight is on the phablet’s bigger brother – the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1.
As early as last week, there were already speculations that Samsung will be unveiling its new tablet in a press event in New York but there was no confirmation from the Korean smartphone and tablet manufacturer. The press invite only shows a drawing of a generic tablet but a little detail on the drawing’s lower left hand corner points out to it having a stylus. Well, what else could it be aside from the new Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1?
With that in mind, Samsung has finally gotten around to announcing the arrival of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 in our side of the world. With its press event scheduled today, the Korean electronics giant unveiled the 10.1-inch version of its stylus-packing phablet and goes all out in the tablet arena. In addition to the unveiling, Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy Note 10.1 will hit US shelves on August 16 so the folks eagerly awaiting the arrival of the tablet wouldn’t have to wait too long.
As for the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, the tablet comes with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box and even comes with the Adobe Photoshop Touch application preinstalled for you to use when things need to get creative.
In terms of its design and aesthetics, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 comes in a Black and a White / Silver paint job and its sleek frame gives it a very elegant and classy air. The tablet has dimensions of 262 x 180 x 8.9 mm and it weighs in at 600 grams. Of course, the build quality we have come to associate with Samsung devices is also present in the chassis of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1.
Under the hood of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 though is where things get more interesting. The tablet comes with a Samsung Exynos 4412 chipset and this brings quad-core capabilities to the table. On that note, the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 comes with a quad-core 1.4 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor and is paired with a staggering 2GB of RAM. The tablet will be made available in a 16GB and a 32GB version in terms of storage space while its display is a 10.1-inch PLS TFT panel with a 1280 x 800 resolution. It also comes with a dual-shooter configuration with its 5MP rear shooter capable of 720p video capture and a front-facing 1.9MP video call and self-portrait camera.
