samsungflexibleamoledscreenSamsung can innovate just like any other electronics company just like all of the rest, but the latest developments for the mobile world are over the top compared to what other companies have come up with.  Samsung released a flexible display earlier this year and it even appeared on one device that may or may not have made it to the marketplace.  Now it looks like with the Consumer Electronics show coming up in January the rumors are starting to pile up as to what companies might be bringing to the table.

Samsung is wasting no time on getting more production of the flexible AMOLED displays they have been working on for the last couple of years.  The Consumer Electronics show in 2011 was a good place to showcase at least one of the flexible technologies that Samsung came up with and now getting the technology onto devices is becoming more reality every day.  Some would say that flexible displays are the wave of the future for smartphones and tablets and even though that might mean that you will see a device with a curved display, the flexibility built in could assist in the overall protection of the display as well.

The LG G Flex that was released this year is a perfect example of a smartphone with a flexible display installed.  The phone can easily handle more abuse than the traditional smartphone even with the best Gorilla Glass on the market.  Dropping mobile devices is still something that keeps people on edge, so companies moving to find ways to keep devices from cracking, is a good thing for consumers.  Rumors are starting to suggest that Samsung could be getting ready to offer the new flexible displays on tablets starting next year.

Not that this would not be a bad idea at all, there is just little functionality in a flexible display, other than more protection.  Besides being in a hurry to get the displays to the market, Samsung has already run into production issues since the Samsung Galaxy Round showed up on the market.  The display on the Galaxy Round is not flexible rather it is static, only with a curvature to it.  LG was the company that has a device that can be twisted and bent without harming the display.  That is the beginning and like with everything else, only time will allow for more development.
