Back in the day, a smartphone with a 4.3-inch display was already considered massive. In fact, these high-end devices with big-ass screens were for a time the toast of the smartphone town. However, Samsung had a different end-game in mind when it unveiled and released the original Samsung Galaxy Note late last year. Coming with a humongous 5.3-inch display, the Samsung Galaxy Note was responsible for single-handedly creating the phablet category – an amalgamation of phone and tablet, of which the device is a little bit of both.
The original Samsung Galaxy Note however did not instantly make it big in the market. There initially were a lot of naysayers that doubted the capability of the first generation Samsung phablet to make a mark in the smartphone market. Oh, how wrong they were – because when people realized the advantages of the handset’s massive screen real estate and the fact that it came with very impressive components under the hood, all doubts about the Samsung Galaxy Note were carelessly thrown into the wind.
The phablet initially shipped with Android 2.3 Gingerbread for its operating system but the Samsung Galaxy Note still went on and gotten its taste of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich along with a Premium Suite of applications back in Spring. More recently, the Korean electronics giant has already confirmed that another Premium Suite update is already in the offing for the original Samsung phablet and this ill make the Samsung Galaxy Note in league with what are considered the best handsets today.
As confirmed by the manufacturer, this Premium Suite update will actually bring Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to the original Samsung Galaxy Note along with goodies and treats we saw on the Samsung Galaxy Note II. An example of this would be the Multi-window feature which enables a user to run two different applications on the display of the Samsung Galaxy Note all at the same time. In addition to that, the update will also give the Samsung Galaxy Note pop-up video / browser / note apps, photo note / photo frame, easy clip, paper artist, and new S Planner and email apps. Not only that, the update will also bring Jelly Bean associated features such as Project Butter and Google Now.
As for the Samsung Galaxy Note, the phablet made its way to US shores via AT&T and was unveiled and released back in January of the current year. Under the hood, the operation of the phablet is powered by a QualComm MMS8660 SnapDragon chipset with a dual-core Scorpion processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and a full gigabyte of RAM. The handset can be had in a 16GB and a 32GB version in terms of storage space but a user can still have this expanded using its microSD card slot. As for its display, the Samsung Galaxy Note II sports a massive 5.3-inch SuperAMOLED panel with a resolution of 1280 x 800 while its camera department features a rear 8MP shooter and a front 2MP snapper.
