Samsung Epic  Touch 4G:  I don’t know about you, but if I owned a company and we sold 10 million units of a particular Android smartphone in only five months, and that did not even include having an offering available in tech-hungry North America, I certainly wouldn’t change that device very much when I did decide to roll it out to the United States and Canada. Samsung was the fortunate smartphone manufacturer that posted those verifiable sales numbers in Europe and Asia with their Galaxy  S  II Android smartphone recently.

Immediately Samsung made contractual agreements with all major American wireless service providers, but Sprint was the first to land their version of the Galaxy  S  II handset in the states. Renamed the Samsung Epic Touch 4G, technically and physically it is very similar to the global world phone that was the Galaxy  S II, with one major distinction.

That distinction allows Samsung to retain its title as the smartphone manufacturer with the largest display in the mobile marketplace. The Samsung Epic  Touch 4G delivers a huge 4.52 inch display, beating out Samsung’s own Infuse 4G’s 4.5 inch display as the largest of all 4G smartphones. Fortunately, that extra size did not mean extra weight, and Samsung kept the Epic  Touch 4G at a thin 0.38 inches (10 mm), and the weight down to 4.60 ounces (130 grams), just about average for all 3G and 4G handsets on the market today.

That 4.52 inch display on the Epic Touch 4G offers capacitive multitouch gesture support, and uses Samsung’s own creation, Super AMOLED Plus display technology, to offer 480 x 800 pixel resolution and 16 million color support. Google’s Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread operating system is built-in, and Samsung went with one of their own processors, a dual core Exynos 1.2 GHz chip supported by 1.0 GB of RAM memory. A 3-D graphics hardware accelerator is also on board.

Android integration usually means preloaded software and applications galore, and that is the case with the Epic Touch 4G. Facebook, Twitter and Picasa social media apps are preloaded, and Adobe’s Flash media player is fully supported. An HTML web browser is built into the device, a YouTube video player has been added, and audio and video players on board support all major file formats.  Buy the Epic Touch 4G starting at only $99!

As extras, a calculator, digital stopwatch, countdown timer, memo notepad and world clock are also present. The Samsung Epic Touch 4G operates exclusively on the Sprint 4G WiMAX network, and is available at select Sprint authorized retailers starting at $99 with a two-year activation.  Learn more about what this version of the Galaxy  S  II has to offer in our detailed Samsung Epic Touch 4G Review.
