The Galaxy Nexus 4G Android handset hit the US last year on December 15, and was the first handset in that country to deliver the much anticipated Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) version 4.0 Android operating system. Arriving on the Verizon 4G LTE system, the Galaxy Nexus is capable of simultaneous voice and data access, allowing you to browse the web, check email or download apps while on a call. The handset also delivers Near Field Communications (NFC) wireless technology out of the box, and Android Beam data share.

The Android Beam app lets you send and receive apps, web pages, data, YouTube videos and just about anything else to and from other Android Beam devices simply by tapping the two handsets together. And being a “Google” smartphone means the Galaxy Nexus 4G comes with Gmail, Google Search, Google Maps 5.0, Google Calendar and Google Talk preloaded. There are reports that the Galaxy Nexus will receive the Jelly Bean OS update before the end of July, which could be an exciting event for owners who are craving the latest OS features. The Galaxy Nexus handset is slim at 0.37 inches (9.47 mm) thick, and has a large 4.65 inch display with a resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels.
That resolution is delivered at 316 pixels per inch, for one of the highest resolutions of any smartphone. The capacitive, multitouch display is protected by an Oleophobic coating against scratching, and uses more than 16 million colors to render visuals. A light sensor offers auto brightness adjustment, and the proximity sensor shuts down the display whenever you raise the Galaxy Nexus to your face to make a call, conserving battery life. That battery life runs up to 12 hours from a single charge of the 1,850 mA battery on board.
The hardware package on board the Galaxy Nexus 4G is anchored by a 4G-best 32 GB of built-in, user accessible data storage the handset delivers, and includes a Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 set of microchips. The 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 CPU benefits from the addition of a Power SGX540 GPU that handles all graphics processing, freeing the CPU up to handle other operations. 1.0 GB of RAM memory is also on board.
The Galaxy Nexus is fitted with 2 cameras, a rear facing 5.0 MP camcorder and a front mounted 1.3 chat cam. That rear device records video in 1,080P HD resolution, and the chat cam offers video call support. A YouTube video player and built-in music player are preloaded, and the Galaxy Nexus provides active noise cancellation with a dedicated microphone. The handset currently sells for $0.01 on contract at select retailers. Buy the Samsung Galaxy Nexus starting at on penny.
