The big anticipation over the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system has ended. The much hyped and much needed Android OS upgrade delivers an improved camera experience, software navigation keys have been changed and improved, the new People app is a huge upgrade over the previous Contacts application and a new Face Unlock feature lets you unlock the power up your phone simply by looking at it.

While the many changes and upgrades are impressive and unique, the Galaxy Nexus 4G smartphone running on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network is average in shape, size and physical dimensions when compared to all other 4G handsets. In the familiar slim, black, slab form factor, the handset measures 5.33 x 2.67 x 0.35 inches (135.5 x 67.94 x 8.94 mm) and weighs 4.76 ounces (135 g). That average size and weight is remarkable because the screen size delivered is one of the largest in the entire smartphone marketplace.

At a whopping 4.65 inches, the Super AMOLED capacitive multitouch screen delivers visuals in 16 million colors and 720 x 1280 pixels, at a rate of 315.80 pixels per inch. That display is protected by a scratch resistant layer of Corning Gorilla Glass. A built-in proximity sensor allows for auto shut off when the device is not in use, and a light sensor delivers auto brightness adjustment.

In the hardware package, the Galaxy Nexus 4G was designed with a Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 microchip set which includes a dual core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 central processing unit and PowerVR SGX540 graphics processor. That hardware package includes 1.0 GB of RAM system memory and an industry-leading 32 GB of built-in storage. The on board music player filters by artist, play list or album, and supports all major audio file formats. Popular social media applications Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Picasa have been pre-installed.

The camera package on board the Galaxy Nexus 4G smartphone contains a 5.0 megapixel camcorder mounted on the rear of the device, and a forward facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam.
