Sprint recently released the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G Android smartphone on their wireless system, and this is the identical handset which debuted on the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE system back in December of last year. The handset offers Android’s version 4.0 of their operating system, tastily named Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), out-of-the-box, as well as Near Field Communications (NFC) support. NFC technology allows for several wireless access options, including retail payment processing via applications, and a special data share application between NFC capable devices.

When the Sprint 4G LTE network is completed in mid summer 2012, both the Sprint and Verizon Galaxy Nexus devices will run on a 4G LTE system. That currently being the only technical difference, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G is a slim phone at 0.37 inches (9.47 mm). The display size, however, is one of the largest offered by any 4G smartphone at 4.65 inches. That Super AMOLED display delivers a pixel density of 316 pixels per inch, and this results in an overall display resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. Visuals are reproduced in more than 16 million different colors, and standard multitouch, capacitive gestures are used to navigate the device.

Thanks to battery conserving efforts from built-in light and proximity sensors, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus delivers up to 12 hours of talk time from a single charge of the 1,850 mA battery on board. Powering the handset is a Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 microchip package, which includes a dual core 1.2 GHz central processor and graphics specific PowerVR SGX540 chip. The handset contains 1.0 GB of RAM memory, and delivers the most out-of-the-box, built-in storage of any smartphone, at 32 GB.

In the camera combo on board the Galaxy Nexus, a front facing 1.3 megapixel chat cam provides portrait snapshot functionality as well as video call support. Built into the back of the smartphone is a 5.0 megapixel camcorder with integrated LED flash, also delivering a panorama mode, a special effects package, Geo tagging, white balance and autofocus features. That rear snapper provides video capture at a high resolution 1,080P HD and 30 frames per second.

In the multimedia package on board the Samsung Galaxy Nexus, a proprietary YouTube player is present, as well as a built-in music player that supports all major file formats, while filtering by album, artist or play list. Being a Google-integrated device, applications like Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, Google Talk and Picasa have been pre-installed.  The Samsung Galaxy Nexus can be bought starting at just one penny!
