Only a few mobile handsets are technologically viable more than a year after their arrival. One such smartphone is the Samsung Galaxy Nexus which arrived in December of 2011. That handset was highly regarded because it delivered the Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0 Android operating system and large high-resolution display to a smartphone in the US for the first time ever. Fast forward more than a year, and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G is experiencing a second life of sorts.
The Galaxy Nexus is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $0.01.
Offering one of the highest resolutions and one of the largest touchscreen smartphone displays, the handset was one of the first to offer NFC wireless support, a feature which still today provides access to applications like Google Wallet and Android Beam. The Galaxy Nexus 4G arrived on the Sprint wireless network on April 22 of 2012, but it wasn’t until late last year that Sprint launched their first ever 4G LTE system, and it is upon that speedy network that the Galaxy Nexus 4G runs.
Capable of simultaneous voice and data access, you can shoot out an e-mail, check out your favorite website or download your favorite application without having to interrupt a voice call. You can also expect fast downlink speeds of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps), while also enjoying uplink speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps when you are located in Sprint 4G LTE mobile broadband coverage zones. And the handset is slim at 0.37 inches (9.47 mm).
The large 4.65 inch display delivers an exceptionally high pixel density, presenting 316 pixels over every inch of display space. That leads to a high-end resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels, and the Super AMOLED screen accepts capacitive, multitouch gestures for device navigation. More than 16 million colors are present on that screen, which is protected by a scratch resistant Oleophobic coating. The Galaxy Nexus handset is run by a Texas Instruments OMAP 4460 microchip package.
The Sprint Galaxy Nexus 4G has a dual core 1.2 GHz Cortex A9 central processor at the core of that chip suite, as well as a PowerVR SGX540 GPU that handles all graphics processing. The handset delivers a full 32 GB of built-in storage and 1.0 GB of RAM system memory. Built into the back of the Sprint Galaxy Nexus 4G is a high resolution camcorder of 8 megapixels, capable of recording video at 1,080P HD resolution. Up front facing the Galaxy Nexus user is a built-in chat cam, which allows for video calls and portrait snapshot capture.
