Whether the next handset in the incredibly successful Galaxy S lineup will be denoted the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S IV or by some other name, it is rumored to be officially announced on February 18. Further rumors point to a display which will support touchless gestures. You merely move your hand in some particular pattern right above the screen and your smartphone will respond. Touchless gestures are already integrated into many video game consoles, and even a few tablets. Persistent recent rumors in the Blogosphere actually have that technology also appearing on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 3 phablet.
The Galaxy Note arrived in the US as the 4G smartphone with the largest display ever way back in February of 2012. That handset was an instant bestseller thanks to a high resolution screen, smart stylus S Pen and integrated native handwriting recognition technology. The second iteration, the Galaxy Note II, arrived in late October of 2012. That second generation Galaxy Note device retained all the popular items and features delivered in the original Note, but improved resolution, screen size and processor power.
And though no launch date has been formally given for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, the handset may be stealing a little of the upcoming Galaxy S4 launch thunder. There is no doubt that the upcoming Galaxy S4 will be a runaway smash, if for no other reason than due to the success of the Galaxy S II and Galaxy S III smartphones. And the Galaxy Note 3, whenever it hits this year, may even deliver a new and improved S Pen smart stylus. Samsung recently purchased a 5% share in Wacom, a company which is known for its stylus and digital input research.
The floating touch gesture feature is already present on the Galaxy Note II, but the integration is limited to the proximity sensor. The technology basically allows you to use your finger like a computer mouse, and you can hover over galleries, video timelines and folders to receive highlights and details. Good to see that the blogosphere rumor mill is in full effect concerning a handset which probably will not be released until the end of the year.
The Galaxy Note 3 will no doubt deliver Wi-Fi in all standards, Bluetooth connectivity, NFC wireless support, and will almost definitely be a 4G LTE capable smartphone. Early and rather substantial rumors from multiple parties are that the Galaxy Note 3 will deliver a huge 6.3 inch display with Full HD resolution whenever it does launch in 2013. There is even talk of an octo-core Exynos 5 Octa chipset on Cortex A15 architecture delivering a five core CPU.
