Researchers at tech review and analysis firm ABI Research are currently confirming what Samsung claimed when it first released the large screen Galaxy Note 4G smartphone. With a smaller screen than a tablet but much larger than a phone, portability is at the extreme, but the handset is not to big to hold in one hand.

It seems Samsung has found the perfect size to combine a hybridized smartphone with a tablet, and the Note 4G has even led to the coining of a new device category name, Phablet. ABI predicts that more than 208 million phablets will be shipped globally in 2015 alone. So it appears that Samsung’s gamble with a large 5.3 inch screen and integrated S Pen smart stylus with native handwriting recognition technology has paid off, to say the least.

Recent sales estimates by several industry analysts have been confirmed by Samsung, and point to over 10 million units of the Samsung Galaxy Note being sold so far in its short history. Competing firms like LG, HTC and Huawei are all introducing some type of phablet smartphone this year, and Samsung has added the Galaxy S3 to the groundbreaking but still small phablet fold. ABI delivers a specific definition for a phablet device as a powerful smartphone with 5.1 to 5.5 inch display.

The 5.3 inch display on board the Galaxy Note definitely fits into the description of a phablet device, and delivers tablet functionality as well as 4G LTE speed and connectivity. The AT&T 4G LTE network is the home in the United States to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4G, where the handset currently retails for around $199 with a standard new two-year activation and data plan at select retailers. That handset is offered in your choice of either Carbon Blue or Ceramic White, and offers Near Field Communications (NFC) support out-of-the-box.

Slated to receive the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system over the air the next couple of weeks, that new OS delivers Google Wallet integration, which will work with the NFC support to deliver wireless payment options at select retailers. Google integration is also delivered in the form of Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Google Talk and Picasa integration. Powering the Galaxy Note handset is one of the speediest processors in the entire 4G smartphone marketplace, a dual core Scorpion central processor that has been clocked at 1.5 GHz.

That CPU speed is enhanced by an Adreno 220 chip that handles all the graphics processing duties. A full 1.0 GB of RAM system memory is on board, and 16 GB of built-in, user accessible storage is present. High resolution 1,080P HD video capture is delivered by the rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder, and a front facing 2.0 megapixel chat cam is on board as well. Popular social media destinations Twitter and Facebook come pre-installed and are ready for use out-of-the-box.  Buy the Samsung Galaxy Note starting at $199.
