The Samsung Galaxy Note is notable for the largest display currently available in a 4G smartphone, and the unique S Pen stylus technology it delivers. The S Pen allows you to doodle, draw, add captions to videos and still shots, write to text, write to e-mail and access a bevy of other native stylus applications. And whether surfing the web, watching videos, or creating original artwork, the 5.30 inch Super AMOLED display provides an enjoyable visual delivery in 16 million colors, at 285 pixels per inch. That creates an overall screen resolution of 800 x 1280 pixels, one of the highest offered by any 4G handset. Standard capacitive, multitouch gestures can also be used for navigating the device.

Larger and heavier than the average 4G smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Note “tablet/phone” measures 5.78 x 3.27 x 0.38 inches (147 x 83 x 10 mm) and weighs 6.45 ounces (183 g). The oversized 2,500 mAh battery provides 10.0 hours from a single charge, approximately 25% better than the typical 4G offering. A Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon power pack is present, and includes a dual core 1.5 GHz Scorpion central processor and graphics dedicated Adreno 220 microchip. 1.0 GB of RAM memory is on board, and 16 GB of storage are built-in.

Samsung borrowed from their Galaxy  S II camera combo for integration into the Galaxy Note 4G handset, and that includes a rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder and front facing 2.0 megapixel chat cam. That rear device comes equipped with an LED flash and F2.6 aperture size, and delivers smile detection, multishot capabilities, panoramic shot taking support and autofocus features, while recording video at 1080P HD resolution and 30 frames per second. The front facing chat cam also offers video call functionality.

In the multimedia package for the Samsung Galaxy Note, a proprietary YouTube video player is on board, and the built-in music player can filter by album, artist or play list, while providing album art cover and background playback. A loudspeaker allows for hands-free operation through voice dialing, voice memo input and other commands, and the onboard web browser supports both Flash and HTML technologies. Popular online destinations Picasa, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube have been preloaded into the Galaxy Note handset. Android’s Gingerbread operating system is present out-of-the-box, as is a gaggle of Google apps, namely Google Search, Google Maps, Gmail, Calendar and Google Talk. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi wireless access options are present, and the Galaxy Note is one of only a handful of devices currently offering NFC support.  Buy the Samsung Galaxy Note starting at $249, a $50 savings over the AT&T price tag.
