Launched on February 7 on the AT&T 4G LTE system in the United States and offered in Carbon Blue or Ceramic White, the Samsung Galaxy Note tablet/phone arrived as a mini-tablet with 4G LTE connectivity and a thin profile, and packed full of high-flying hardware and software. Overall dimensions run 5.78 x 3.27 x 0.38 inches (147 x 83 x 10 mm), and the 5.30 inch touchscreen display is the largest found on any smartphone. Offering a screen that approaches the size of 7 inch tablets, the handset is still small enough to be dropped in a purse or pocket.
With the ability to understand your handwriting, you have “write to text” capabilities for e-mail, messaging and anywhere else a traditional virtual keyboard is usually used. The handset comes equipped with a smart stylus Samsung calls the S Pen, which allows you to create original artwork and even add notes and pictures to snapshots and video. The Samsung TouchWiz user interface meshes with Android’s 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system,and that 5.30 inch display is protected by a layer of scratch resistant Gorilla Glass.
Offering a high-end resolution of 800 x 1,280 pixels at 285 pixels per inch, the Super AMOLED capacitive, multitouch screen uses more than 16 million colors to create visual imagery. Standard light and proximity sensors are built into the display, offering auto screen brightness adjustment and battery conservation. The 2,500 mA battery on board provides approximately 25% more talk time than the typical 4G smartphone cell, at 10.00 hours after a single charge.
In the hardware profile, a Qualcomm MSM8660 Snapdragon microchip package delivers a dual core 1.5 GHz Scorpion central processor, and Adreno 220 graphics processing chip.The Samsung Galaxy Note 4G delivers 1.0 GB of RAM memory and 16 GB storage are built into the handset. A microSD slot is provided offering microSDHC support as well, and accepting cards up to 32 GB in size.
The camera combo on board the Galaxy Note includes an 8.0 megapixel camcorder (rear) and 2.0 megapixel chat cam (front). That rear device comes equipped with an LED flash, and provides video capture at 1,080P HD resolution. The front facing chat cam also offers video call support, and popular online destinations Facebook, YouTube, Picasa and Twitter have been pre-installed. A built-in music player is also on board, and the handset offers Near Field Communications (NFC) support for applications like Google Wallet and Android Beam out-of-the-box.
