Launching in early February in the US, the Galaxy Note Phablet has already sold somewhere between 7 and 10 million units, and the unique S Pen smart stylus and handwriting recognition technology set it apart from other big screen smartphones. Of course, so does the 5.3 inch display, the largest found on any mobile handset. July 10 the Galaxy Note 4G received an update to Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) 4.0, and the Samsung tweaking includes a Premium Suite of apps integrated for the S Pen. Samsung issued a Press Release introducing the ICS functionality and features the Galaxy Note would now deliver. Here are some of the highlights.

S Note is one of the new apps that meshes ICS 4.0 with the smart stylus S Pen. As Samsung stated, it is “a new application that enhances productivity and professionalizes communications.” It does that by providing templates for 7 documents you frequently use. And the Idea Note not only records your thoughts and ideas, but can be played back in the order in which you created them. Shape Match makes your circles, squares, arrows and lines more refined, and Formula Match understands and recognizes when you are using certain math formulas.
Knowledge Search on your Galaxy Note gives you the ability to rapidly look up and research information through your hand-written notes with the Wolfram Alpha database. Meeting Notes does what you would think, but also captures attendees, meeting agendas and other info, and syncs it all to a calendar entry. You can also import and edit or annotate PDF files, and turn your dictated or handwritten memos and notes to text via the Continual Voice Input and Handwriting-to-Text features.
S Memo gets an upgrade that includes one-touch access to all features; writing, typing, voice dictation, image addition and search. And the S Memo widget can be placed on multiple Home Screens for instant usability. The My Story app is made possible by Google Play, and harnesses the S Pen to allow the artist in you to create thank you notes, personalized Birthday Cards, sympathy notes and other original content by combining video, photo, text and voice data. The new ICS 4.0 update to the Galaxy Note also includes NFC support for Android Beam, providing wireless data-share features. And the update carries the new Face Unlock security feature, as well as data usage monitoring.
The Galaxy Note also contains a fast 1.5 GHz, 1.0 GB of RAM system memory, 16 GB of built-in, user accessible storage and 1,080P HD high resolution video capture. The Samsung Galaxy Note 4G smartphone currently sells for $199 on contract at select retailers, and is available in either Carbon Blue or Ceramic White colors.
