The Samsung Galaxy Note II 4G Android phablet blurs the lines between smartphones and tablets. The huge 5.55 inch display with native handwriting recognition technology and 720P True HD resolution is very tablet-like in size and ability. But the handset also runs on the AT&T 4G LTE network in the United States, and unlike most tablets, functions effectively as a smartphone. While its designation as a smartphone or tablet is cloudy, one thing is crystal clear.
The Galaxy Note II for ATT is available for a reduced sale price now starting at $199.99.
The tablet sized mobile handset helped AT&T move a record 10 million smartphones in Q4 of last year. That is a company record, and those numbers were released as part of the company’s overall financials. The Samsung Galaxy Note II currently carries the largest 4G display of any smartphone, and recently passed the 5 million units sold mark globally. Impressive for a handset which many industry analysts felt was too large, and has only been available since late October of last year.
Q4 captured nearly 40% of AT&T’s entire annual smartphone sales units, and 2012 showed approximately 26.7 million units sold, ahead of the forecast of 26 million. The Galaxy Note II currently retails for around $199 on contract on the AT&T wireless network at the Amazon Wireless store. The handset arrived on AT&T on November 9 of last year, and has been a flagship device for that wireless service provider ever since. Delivering the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system, that OS is wrapped with the popular Samsung TouchWiz UI.
The Galaxy Note II is slim at 0.37 inches (9.3 mm), and the large 5.55 inch Super AMOLED screen is aligned in a True HD 16 to 9 aspect ratio. That screen is protected against your daily abuse by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 2, and resolution runs 720 x 1,280 pixels, delivered at a rate of 265 pixels per inch. Talk time can run as high as 15.0 hours from a single battery charge, and the phablet is powered by a Samsung Exynos 4 chip set.
The hardware package is centered around a quad core 1.6 GHz ARM Cortex A9 central processor, and an ARM Mali 400 MP4 quad core GPU focuses exclusively on processing your graphics requests. 2.0 GB of RAM memory is on board, as is 16 GB of built-in storage, with the built-in microSD slot allowing for storage expansion. The Galaxy Note II for AT&T delivers NFC wireless support out-of-the-box, recording video at 1,080P HD resolution with its rear facing 8.0 megapixel camcorder.
You can purchase the Galaxy Note II at a discounted price tag now starting at $199.99.
