SamMobile is a tech website dedicated to everything mobile that Samsung offers, and they have in the past been an excellent repository of late breaking news regarding that smartphone manufacturer. Just this past week on their website, they announced that the Galaxy Note II smartphone/tablet would receive an update to the Jelly Bean 4.2.2 operating system in May or June of this year. They also tweeted the update info, claiming that all Galaxy devices powered by a quad core processor would also receive an eventual upgrade to Android’s 5.0 Key Lime Pie.
The operating system update announcement comes as Samsung is rolling out the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean upgrade for their Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. There are also unconfirmed rumblings that Android’s 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system will be the last OS update for Android devices which employ dual core processors. The Galaxy Note II has been quite popular thanks to a huge high resolution display, powerful quad core processor, split screen feature which allows you to divide the display into 2 windows, and native handwriting recognition technology integrated into the smart stylus S Pen that comes with the device.
Aside from allowing you to carry on two different operations by splitting the display into two windows, you can also interact between the two screens, enabling fluid multitasking between apps. You can also interact with your handset by touching the screen with your hand or the stylus, hovering just above the screen, or using voice activation. And when you remove the S Pen from its cradle, a pop-up menu with related S Pen applications appears on the screen. The stylus has been made longer and thicker than the one that appeared on the original Galaxy Note, and this makes for a more natural feel when writing or drawing.
Though the Galaxy Note II handset offers a large 5.55 inch Super AMOLED screen, the Note II is slim at 0.37 inches (remove). That touchscreen delivers a 720 x 1,280 pixel resolution, and a 16 to 9 aspect ratio. Talk time is impressive 15.0 hours from a full battery charge, and the CPU mentioned earlier is an Exynos quad core 1.6 GHz chip. It is part of a Samsung Exynos 4 (4412) system chip, and graphics are handled by a quad core ARM Mali 400 MP4 GPU. The handset also offers a full 16 GB of built-in storage space and 2.0 GB of RAM memory, with a microSD slot included for storage expansion.
The Galaxy Note II offers a rear facing camcorder of 8.0 megapixels, and this rear snapper records video in 1,080P HD resolution. NFC wireless support is offered out-of-the-box, and a YouTube video player joins a Stereo FM radio with RDS display capabilities in the handset’s multimedia package. Popular online destinations Facebook, Picasa and Twitter have been pre-installed.
